2010 Malibu Lysol 3.6 over heating

I just replaced thermostat and flushed system. I noticed my car running hotter then normal again. It only once
shut off the AV do to getting hot. The car normally runs at about 33%. Now if I give it gas even on freeway it
raises above half then as I release the gas pedal I can see it lower. I live in Arizona and I just bought this car
for a little bit of $. My mechanic says its normal but I believe he's not that smart for I've never in 25 yrs had a
car do this,nor in the 3 months I've owned this car has it done this...please help!!!!

Check if your fans comes on if it does I would guest its your water- pump.
