Corolla suddenly not starting, need diagnostic advice
Battery is less than a year old. Put battery on charger, chargers says
battery is 100%, multi-meter shows 12+ volts too. Interior lights come on
when door is open, horn works, radio will come on in accessory mode.
When I turn the ignition on (not all of the way to start, just to ignition
position) dash lights come on for a second then go dark. Whole electrical
system seems to die. If I wait a couple of minutes, interior lights, horn, etc
start working again. If I try to crank engine, same symptom, I do not hear
starter click at all. Are there any basic things I can check before going to a
chech all the battery cables and the ground to engine/frame and motor...
Just wanted to follow up here. With my multi-meter I measured 6.5 ohms from negative terminal on battery to the alternator. Took off the battery/chassis and chassis/engine ground cables and polished the terminal ends with a dremel w/wire brush attachment. Polished chassis and engine where cables attach. After, measured only 0.1 ohms. Car turned right over and started. I was thinking this was a major problem way over my head to fix. Thank you Kelly!
