Did you ever get an answer for this?

No. However I have been told it's probably the instrument cluster or ABS module. I've just been using a GPS as a speedometer. Also my fuel guage works, and I keep up on the maintenance under the hood. I Do need a transmission fluid change soon. Curious thing was Toyota "Fixed" a recall about 1 month before the problems started, so I assume that may have been what caused it. It was something to do with the abs module or airbags. My wife had it done while I was away.

Do you have auto start?
