09 BMW X5 transmission problems

Asked by Nov 19, 2016 at 03:18 AM about the 2009 BMW X5 xDrive30i

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Just bought an 09 BMW X5 xDrive30i with 74k
miles and had transmission problems a couple days
after purchasing.  After getting multiple opinions
from various shops it looks like it may need a new
transmission.  I'm getting quotes ranging from
$3500 to rebuild - $5600 for a reman build.

1.  Is the fix worth it?  Other option is to get rid of it
and take the loss.
2.  If its worth the fix, rebuild vs reman?

Can I assume you didn't get a 30 day drivetrain warranty? How much did you pay for it? I'd have the trans rebuilt. Up to you if you want to take the loss selling it.

You can also buy a good used transmission. Check out carpart.com for pricing and availability. Be sure to get some kind of warranty from the salvage yard before you buy. That may be the way to go here. HTH. - Jim
