Bought this car as a project. Looking for ideas
on fun engine to throw in that I won’t have to
completely rebuild the bay to fit it in. Don’t
want to stick with the traditional wrx swap

Since this is essentially a non starter a 426 hemi gets my vote. You might as well go for broke. Broke is the key word ;)
Only thing that’ll end up working without spending a boat load of money or some serious labors of love is the traditional wrx swap
Ok so I'm new to the subie life. I just bought a 2009 Subaru impreza 2.5i 4 door 5 speed manual. It has a rod knock. So my options are, from what I've found this far, get the original 2.5i(EJ25) $1799or the 2.0L(EJ20) $750 because it's a direct fit and $1k cheaper.
