2009 Kia spectra will not pull into gear automatic unhooked a cable will go in gear key won't come out ?

Had to unhook cable on shifter has something to do with break . So I could put car in
gear. Now key won't come out

Neutral safety switch at break pedal,it release,s the shifter.
