Failure code on dodge ram truck was # 3 Value faiilure. Mechanical tried replacing the spring but still not running right. Noticable loss of power.
I am going to assume that you said #3 valve failure and a mechanic already tried replacing the valve spring. You need to run a compression test on the engine and compre readings, if number 3 is lower that the rest then the head will have to come off to see what has happened inside.
Yes, he did already replace the spring. I plan on taking it to a dodge dealer for them to get a second opinion..
Could there be another reasons for this failure code?
If you plan on taking it to a dealer i hope you have deep pockets. I would suggest taking it to an independent shop, their labor rate will be less and you can still get quality repair work especially if they are certified. I still think a compression test is in order.
It could be a bad injector if the cylinder has good compression but not getting fuel to fire, but usually that sets a code for fuel injectors.
A mechanic already took a look at it an replaced the spring and it did not fix the problem. He did not want to get in to tearing it down any further. Not sure if he did a compression test. I will have to ask.
