Stalls at stop when exiting freeway
Asked by Gusdona Mar 30, 2016 at 06:20 PM about the 2009 Chrysler Town & Country Touring FWD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
My Chrysler T/C sometime will stall when coming to a stop exiting the freeway. When the RPM drops I can shift it into N and back into D. this has stopped it from stalling. I did see articles on-line when the transmission valve body sometimes corrected this, others had a completed rebuilt of the trans.

it is possible that your tcc or torque converter control solenoid is bad. this "locks" the trans in the higher gears at highway speeds. If it fails then the trans has difficulty unlocking when you slow down or come to a stop. It is an electrical connection on the transmission. Unplug it and se if it "fixes". if so, the solenoid is bad. it doesn't really hurt to drive the car with this unplugged, but you may experience poorer fuel mileage, and strange behavior in cruise control.
It is the EMCC solenoid. Answer is here: http://forum.chryslerminivan.net/showthread.php/60561- PLEASE-HELP!-2009-T-amp-C-4.0-stalling-when-exiting- highway-dealer-is-clueless!/page4
You cannot "unplug" this solenoid without taking the front cover off, which means you might as well replace it. If it sticks completely, you'll be locked up and the car will have to be towed.
