What is causing my ODO light to flash on and off on my 2005 Ford Escape

Flashing O/D Light meant that a transmission code is present. Have the SUV scanned for the code and have your local mechanic or trans shop take a look at it. A local auto parts store will do this free in most cases. Hope that it is only a solenoid or speed sensor and or you can try a fluid change.
