how do you know when your catalytic converter is stopped up
My wifes 2009 LTZ Z71 5.3 with 120,000+ miles isn't as powerful as my brother-in-laws with the same engine. When going up hill it has to downshift a couple of times (like kicking in the passing gear) to keep the speed up, could this be the catalytic converter? The other day I was following my wife down the road and a puff of blue smoke came from the tailpipe, it doesnt do that at startup or reving the engine either. We've had several problems with this vehicle like the dash lights going crazy, door locks going on off and it starts jerking like crazy (almost like its posessed) until you pull off the road, turn it off, sit for a few minutes and then its fine...untill the next time. We have also put (2) new oil pressure units in it in the last month because of suposedly low oil pressure readings. I think it may be time to trade this thing in, she loves the truck but oh well. The kicker is, we bought the truck used 3-4 months ago and it ran fine for about a month.....aaarrrrrggggghhhhh!!! Our salesman said we could trade it back for total price we gave for it though so all is good. I would just really like to know if these problems can be fixed fairly easy before trading back?
