Can anyone help with this?

Asked by Tieesha Aug 12, 2022 at 11:10 PM about the 2009 Hyundai Accent GS 2-Door Hatchback FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Yesterday when I was leaving work, I noticed a red
light come on in my dash and I figured out later that is
was the temp gauge. Then the battery light came on
as well and after popping the hood, I noticed that a
belt was destroyed and shredded, I don't know which
one it is but it was hard to steer and I needed a jump
after I went to put gas in. I was thinking that it may be
the serpentine belt but I am not sure though as I only
have little knowledge. Someone told me it is a short
belt but didn't know the name of it. Is there anyone
who can assist? I don't want to get the wrong part.
Thank you!

Your engine uses three belts. One for the AC, one for the Water pump and Alternator and one for the power steering. Each belt is around $10 to $15 and if one broke, the others are not far behind, and I would replace all three. I suspect the water pump and alternator belt broke, which effected the power steering pump belt. Also check the water pump itself and the tensioner pulley to see if they move freely as they might have failed contributing to the belt wear and breaking.
