How can I get into the battery in the rear cargo area if my better is dead and I can't open the back?

Asked by PedalPusher Jul 25, 2013 at 02:42 PM about the 2009 Chevrolet HHR LS FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I hadn't used my HHR for a couple of months and the battery died, I had to use my key to open the driver's door. Tried the ignition and now it won't give me the key back, pushing the door buttons to open the doors doesn't work. I have my spare keys but there's n o place for them on the back hatch. Do I have to have it towed over to the dealer?

There is a battery jump point under the hood of your HHR but please read the attached link before doing so or else you will kill transmission TCM unit. http://www.autoserviceprofessional.com/article/93366/tcm-killed-by-jump-start

Fairly simple as I am doing it right now. Put the back seats down, remove the spare tire and that will give you access to the battery. Simple but a major pain in the ass.
