what makes the low oil pressure stop engine light come on

Self evident. Low oil pressure. Shut your engine off before you burn it up. Some cars have a switch that will shut it off automatically...anyway could be failed oil pump, clogged oil filter, even faulty pressure sending gauge giving a false read. Get an OBD scan to help pinpoint, it should have thrown a code.

Could be. That's what sending unit is, what I meant there I forgot to add the word 'unit' to sending unit accidentally wrote gauge. Should read " "Faulty sending unit giving gauge (light) a false reading"...sorry My bad
