Why would my car stay stuck inbetween 4000 to 5000 rpms?

Asked by Nov 01, 2016 at 09:11 AM about the 2009 Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class SLK350

Question type: General

I drive an automatic 09 mercedes benz slk 350. I
was on the highway today and when I went to
decelerate the car stayed inbetween 4000 and
5000 rpms. I tried to manually downshift and had
no luck. Only until I shifted up a few gears did the
rpms return to a normal speed to gear ratio.
Anyone know what the problem may be? I m pretty
mechanically challenge so bear with me please
