Engine replacement

Asked by Mar 11, 2019 at 08:41 AM about the 2009 Lexus RX 350 FWD

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

While driving my 2009 Lexus RX 350, the oil pressure light cam on. I drove about one quarter mile to park.  The car cut off in the parking lot and was towed to Toyota. Mechanics said that the engine was blown.  There were no noticeable leaks before this incident.  Next oil change was due in 2000 miles.  Car has 128,000 miles.  Is it worth replacing the engine?  I am considering an used engine.  The cost of the new one from Toyota was $6,500.  Can it be replaced with another model engine or a newer year engine?

Low oil pressure isn't always low fluid, the pump probably failed and the engine stopped due to heat. Find a used engine, a similar model year vehicle will work. 2006 to 2012 I think. Maybe even an engine from another Toyota like a Highlander. Talk to a local mechanic who can find one for you and install. I see you will spend around $1000 on avg. for one, plus install.
