2009 chevy aveo ac compressor

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just had a quote to fix my air
conditioner in my 2009 chevy aveo.
It was priced at 1800 by midas in
clovis, CA.   I'm going to get a
second opinion,  but the tech said
that  this car has a type of
compressor that can't be replaced
without replacing a bunch of other
stuff.  Basically, he was saying it has
a special kind of clutch that is not
engaged using the same mechanism
that most other cars use .   I've never
heard of any such thing before. Is
this a legit assessment or someone
doesn't know what they're talking
about?

Book time on labor is 1.5 hours. Even at the highest rate $80/hr that's only $120 http://www.cars.com/auto-repair/estimate/ Say $300 compressor, $120 labor, even add $100 for refrigerant gas ans misc. = $520.

http://www.napaautocare.com/estimator.aspx# Parts $469 - $735 AC Compressor Labor $156 - $198 So $1800 is double what it should be. I just kept checking different estimators to make sure

My 2011 Aveo had the ac compressor, expansion valve, freon, and labor all for 500 bucks.

At that price you could buy another 09 Aveo!
