For the hard peddle I would try to bled the braks and see if that helps. But if the anti lock braks light is on I would remove the fuse so I wouldn't see it lol. Anyway for real it must be a sensore for it I'm not really sure.

you may just need a new sensor. If you look, your rotor has teeth on the inside of it. This is where the sensor computes the rpm or somthing. replace the sensor(s) unplug battery of course. As for the hard peddle, as long as its not a spongy peddle your fine, just no abs.

you might have a faulty vaccum booster or master cylinder which would cause a hard pedal and would also cause the ABS light to come on

no but that could possibly be your brake pads getting low but that generally would happen in both directions

you mentioned a hard pedal but you did not say how your brakes were working . you may have a check valve stuck in the master cylinder but usually it's either the proportioning valve (front/rear brake bias ) or the power brake booster vacuum check valve or a leaking seal . does the engine idle rough or do you hear any hissing sounds when the brakes are applied ? is this an original owner car with original parts ?

ahh there's somethin wrong with your power brake booster or your master cylinder I'll bet . pull the fuse for the antilock brakes and see if it makes any difference .. hope not ! tht thing is expensive ... probly needs a master cylinder

25 years old. You don't say anything about how many miles it has or if you have ever done any previous brake work. Presuming that none was done and you have high mileage, my thought is the master cylinder. It may be gummed up or just wore out. You can get a rebuilt one for a reasonable price. If the M/C is bad, then the brakes are probably worn down enough to need replacing too. Old cars can get expensive.
