why do my lifters chatter when my turbo opens on my 87 turbo coupe

Either they need adjusted or they may be damaged.

ok thats kewl.thanku. i just bought 87bird a couple of months ago and im working the bugs out of it. im fixen to do the timeing belt and vavle cover. im pretty good at fixing car cars but no pro. u think i should tighten them when i do valve cover? what adjusting the timing?would that make them chatter?

Yeah, they get loose over time which can cause noise. See what the clearances should be and set them to that.
