most fuel tanks have a safety check valve to prevent overfilling and fuel spilling out in case of a rollover. Sometimes this check valves can get stuck and prevent you from putting gas in or it will take longer to pump your gas depending on how stuck the valve is. Sometimes it's a small plastic ball floating in the tank that acts as the valve.

I will take the car by a shop and have them look at it sometimes the valve is in the filler neck and the ball is inside the tank depending on which your vehicle has.
