BMW OIL PROBLEM

Asked by Jun 09, 2016 at 12:24 PM about the 2008 BMW 3 Series 335i Convertible RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi, I just had my oil changed on 5/26/16,
noticed at after my car employees smoked when
started , but it would stop so I didn't worry about it .
TODAY , going out of town
And my engine light comes on
, stopped and asked a guy for help, he checked oil,
said I didn't have oil.  So went to a auto zone,
purchased oil , put in. Engine light "service engine
soon" is still on. First , WHY WOULD I BE OUT OF
OIL ALREADY AND WHY IS ENGINE LIGHT ON IF I
JUST PUT OIL. REALLY WORRIED, ON A 5 Hour
ROUND TRIP TODAY, Don't WANT TO CAUSE
DAMAGE. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE SOMEBODY
RESPOND QUICKLY,

SCARED!

I'm confused because your BMW doesn't have an oil dipstick under the hood. The oil level is electronic and you can view the level electronically from the dash. How did you know how much to put in? Over filling your engine will cause damage. Also a check engine light is not associated with your oil but engine sensors. Take the car into a independent BMW garage or dealership ASAP to have it properly serviced.

If it's the red engine light, do not drive as engine damage will result, it's saying that there is too low or no oil pressure.

OK 2005 does have a dipstick. Why is it low on oil already? Might be a faulty CCV system. It's the crankcase vent system that gets clogged or the hoses crack producing an engine code for a vacuum leak and you will have excessive oil consumption. .....http://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?1392141-What-are-the-symptoms-of-a-failing-CVV
