F-150 2008 runs good cold, but after sitting in heavy traffic it begins to cut out

Asked by Aug 22, 2016 at 01:54 AM about the 2008 Ford F-150 FX4 SuperCab

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

It acts like I am pumping gas but the engine light does not come on. It only
does this as the engine is a running temperature or when I am stuck in traffic.

Sorry to break the bad news to u but sounds like ur cam phaser system is not working properly. Do a cold oil pressure test and then again after engine is at normal operating temperature if the pressure drops below 25psi, u have an internal clearance issue, meaning ur engine is done. The phasers adjust the timing constantly but requires oil pressure to work, once the engine is hot, the oil viscosity drops and because internal clearances are too big, oil pressure drops and phasers can't adjust timing anymore. Good luck!
