AWD not engaging

Rear wheels not engaging is snow covered driveway.
what could be causing the lack of rear wheel power?
front wheels spin freely on the ice but no power distributed to rear

Hi, Yes I am sure it is AWD Vehicle will not make it up the snow covered driveway, front wheels spin and get stuck. we bought it used but the nice people we bought it from did not have any issues with it.

I think this is a common problem. It has to do with a broken weld inside the transfer case (I think).

Hi, I replaced the transfer case with one from a scrap yard. All good now
