Question type: Maintenance & Repair

just last week i drove up to Seattle washington from San Diego and back, about 2508 miles. on the way back i noticed that the fuel gauge along with the digital fuel guage were declining rapidly. After filling up the tank, without moving the vehicle, i would lose about a quarter tank of fuel. ive looked under the car for leaks( i found none), the fuel filter is dry and has no leaks and i cannot smell fuel in the engine compartment.

the sensor in the gas tank could b bad and just mis reading how much gas is in the car.... but if it is actually losing gas take it somewhere and have them check it out

Thanks. The car is headed to the shop now

Shop said its the FUEL PUMP MODULE which they don't fix there... And I'm assuming they mean the fuel pump itself. Is that hard to replace? Is there a site I can see info on how to?

Fuel pump module is located inside the fuel tank. To replace, the tank must be removed to access the module. Unless you're fairly experienced this is something best left to the pros. Wiring and plumbing have connectors that require special tools to unlock. However! Run the fuel tank down to almost empty before doing this. Your mechanic will definately appreciate it!

Thanks Mike. Mechanic said if I want him to do the work it would run me $700. He did however recommend that I take it to the dealership and have them do a goodwill fix since the car is fairly new and has less than 60K miles on it. So, cars headed to the dealership next week. Hopefully the work is covered under my warranty

I have an 08 Edge with 43K. We have an extended warranty since factory was only 3/36. Hope you have same! Good Luck and glad to help!

There must be a fault with the fuel systems on the edge. I am heading back to Virginia from Florida in a few days and with an average of 15 miles per gallon I dread the trip. Any ideas on how to get better millage. thanks
