No, shifting in an automatic transmission is done by: A) How much throttle you are asking of it, mixed with B) Fluid pressure from the spinning gears. The movement of the transmission pushes fluid through ports and when the pressure reaches a threashold the force shifts gears. Tom above is on the right track.

You're battery is only used to start the car once the engine is running the altinator runs all of the electronics however aa bad alternator would not have any thing to do with the car shifting hard I would take it to a reputable transmission shop and find out what is wrong with ur cars tranny

Try adding some Lucas Transmission Fix Stop Slip. Works great on hard shifting. Do not over fill remove a quart if necessary.

A. Bad battery can affect shifting gears. This has happened to me twice. At this very time my battery is defective and I am having trouble shifting even after recharging the battery. I can only put the car into drive or neutral. The battery does not recharge when driving it. You may not have the same issue. Keep in mind that in my case it is the shifter that simply wont go into park or reverse. It did work the first time I restarted the suv. Getting new battery today.

Especially in Ford products, a low or bad battery will effect computer controls, like the transmission control module. If the battery voltage drops below 10 volts for any amount of time during the cranking process, the computer modules can basically go stupid and will not function properly. There still may be some mechanical issues as with anything around 5 years old, depending on usage and care. But if you monitor the voltage while cranking the vehicle and it drops to 10v or below, there is a good chance the battery is bad and causing the sudden peoblems. 2014 Focus with sudden transmission fault light and sporadic shifting issue. The transaxle it this product is still designed to fail from the manufacturer but this problem wasn't related to this.

As per my experience with Nissan Tiida, it has badly effected reverse gear. I was not able to drive in reverse when battery was weak. When I changed to new battery, problem has totally disappeared.

Depends on the age of the vehicle, if any of the transmissions functions are controlled by a computer (most vehicles made in the past 30 years) then yes. My 2003 maxima for example feels like I am dragging an anchor being me when I begin to accelerate after using the breaks (seriously thought my brakes were sticking) but the problem went away instantly once I realized my negative battery cable didn't have a solid connection.
