what can you do when your gear shift is registering that it is in reverse when it actually positioned in park? I just experienced this and had to turn the car off or else it would have keep moving backward. Now i am not able to turn the car back on without it being in the park position. How do i fix it to at least get it to the mechanic or do i have to call a tow truck?

Put it in neutral and turn the key , it should start up. Be sure that you have your foot on the brake.
