Front end howling noise

Asked by Jan 13, 2016 at 08:23 PM about the 2008 Ford Explorer XLT

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Im having some howling noise when i accelerate.
Its not my wheel bearings or joints,  i turn just fine
with no noise.   Upon accelerating,  it howls and it
feels right under me while im driving, but then goes
away around 40-50 MPH.   I have seen two people,
one said it was the differential and another said it
didnt sound like a differential.  Any help would be
appreciated.

On the Explorer I had it started making noise howl like that it it was the front ring and pinion, fixed that and then the viscous clutch went out in the transfer case a month later, yanked the front driveline and sold it.
