What could cause my 2008 explorer to sound like a hose pops off and it loses power when driving through town when I let off of the accelerator and then try to accelerate.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2008 explorer with 80,000 miles. it runs great most of the time. Recently
though when I am driving through residential streets where i have to take my foot off of
the accelerator multiple times it will sound like the engine has thrown a hose or
something a very loud air noise comes from the engine and it loses power. You can
still accelerate, but it won't pick up speed very quickly, then it sounds like it shifts
gears and then runs fine again. I have had 3 mechanics look at it but since it doesn't
show a code, no one knows what it is. Please help if you have any ideas. Thanks!

Could be brake vacuum (booster assy)... when you take your foot off the brake ... the vacuum is able to recover

Try adding water to your radiator and overflow. I know it sounds stupid but ours was doing the same thing. Check on top of the motor block and see if there is a little puddle of antifreeze. There is a plastic water pump part on top of the block that leaks and needs replacing. Just check, I promise it sounds stupid but it works.
