Gas Pedal Doesn't Work ?

The other night I was taking my friend home and after I dropped her off and
on my way to my house about 2 miles away my gas light came on. I didn't
want to stop it was 12 am. So the next day it was really hot 95 degree's
usually at my apts I get to park under the carport where it stays pretty cool.
But since I got home late there was no space. Parked in the open. That
evening got in my car to go get gas and go to the grocery store. The car
started fine drove fine until I was almost out of my apts and the gas pedal
went all the way to the floor and it felt like I wasn't getting gas. I thought I had
run out. The car did go about 5 miles an hour and I slowly went accross the
street. I put some gas in it and it started ok drove ok to the store down the
street and on my way back home right before my apts the car acted up again
gas pedal not giving gas. There was no CEL on either. I am 66 years old I do
not want to be taken advantage of. I have it at the Nissan dealer now cause
the private mechanic who charged me 140 for diagnostic?? could not figure
out what was wrong. He kept saying it was my transmission. I don't think it is
although I have a 2008 Nissan Versa SL and it has a CVT People have been
complaining about the cvt. Could the gas pedal not working be my CVT. I
hope not!! I am a 66 year old disabled woman. I am on a fixed income. My
life is over if it is the transmission. I have done spent two wrecker fee's of 85
each and 140 dols for diagnostic and have to pay another 140 all came out
of my grocery money and rent money. I have to go to the dr twice a month I
have no family if I can't get my car fixed I might as well die.
