I'm replacing tires on a 2008 Honda Element EX. Must I use the same size tire as original, or can I use a larger size without risking drivetrain problems?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2008 Element: Standard tire size 215 70R 16: considering 235 70R 16.  I get differing
views on maintaining integrity of drive train.

Why are you considering a different size than stock? The 235's will be approx. 4% larger, so the speedometer will be off slightly showing 2mph faster. I don't see the benefit unless you are getting these tires at a discount cost. If you do make sure you replace all 4, not just 2.

The first several model years came with faulty (overcounting) speedometers, so these actually would help offset that discrepancy, depending on the vehicle/repair status.
