Urgency and Cost to replace Head Gasket

Asked by Dec 11, 2013 at 12:39 PM about the 2008 Saturn Aura XE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2008 Saturn Aura with about 70,000 miles that has developed a small oil leak.  Dealer said the Head Gasket needs to be replaced to the tune of $1800.  I plan to get additional estimates but wanted an idea of ballpark cost that I should expect.  Also, as the leak is small, can I wait a while (until the leak gets worse) to have the Head Gasket replaced or are there any "really bad" things that could happen if I wait too long?  I appreciate the help.

$1200-$1500 is ballpark. No real bad things unless it get worse. Keep an eye on the leak, add oil when needed. Save up for the repair in the meantime.
