Why is my Grand Prix not accelerating when I press the gas?

Asked by papapedro890 Nov 23, 2020 at 05:05 AM about the 2008 Pontiac Grand Prix Base

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So I'm driving probably 55-60 and the rpms dropped suddenly and that's when this started happening. The engine would rev to 3000 rpms but wouldn't go any faster than 50mph. If I shift to neutral it revs to 4500ish and if I press the brake it stops revving. In park it idles fine. In drive at a stop sign it acts like the alternator is bad with the lights dimming but the thing is only a couple months old. Turn off the car and start it back up and everything goes back to way it should be. Anyone have any ideas here?

Make sure all electrical connections are clean and tight. Inspect the grounds. Have you scanned it for trouble codes? That would be your next step.
