How would I know if my vehicle needs only transmission fluid or a whole new transmission replaced?

Asked by Nikki Jul 31, 2019 at 06:41 PM about the 2008 Saturn VUE XE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2008 Saturn Vue jerks once while accelerating
the gas. And sounds as if the transmission is
slipping but kicks back into gear. It drives and goes
in reverse, neutral and Park. I had it machine tested
a couple of codes came up mostly dealing with the
transmission. Could it be that my transmission
fluid is low or could it be I need a whole
transmission replacement?

I would have a transmission shop diagnose the issue. It would be hard for us to say without driving it and knowing what codes you got. Low fluid would give you codes necessarily and are you leaking transmission fluid I would say your in need of a rebuild or maybe it's just as simple as a solenoid.
