how do I turne the engine light off after I fix the problem

Either with a scan tool or simply drive normally for a few days with the gas tank between 1/4 and 3/4. No more and no less. This will allow the computer to run all the diagnostics and determine the problem has been fixed. The check engine light will then go out. HTH. -Jim
