Question type: Maintenance & Repair

In 9/2016 at 55,000 miles lost power on trip and Ford dealer has to put in a new Internal oil cooler, $4200 later.  In 4/2017 it happened again at 60,000 miles.  2 year Ford Warrant replaced again and went out again at 400 miles later.  Any suggestions as Ford doesn't know.???

I am curious as to exactly how the oil cooler failed. Without knowing that there is no way to know how to prevent another failure.

$3500 labor and $700 parts Have,2 take front end off, the way it was built. Supposity it plugged but oil changed every 3000 miles or every 3 months as life time oil change. But changed when done done 2nd time and then only 400 miles before it Happened again. On after market is it better and resolved problem on other 2008 ford 6.0 engines?

After market oil cooler setups can have an additional oil filter which might stop your problem. What oil do you use?

The 400 mile failure is almost certainly due to mechanic error. I wonder if they are using excess gasket sealant that peels off and plugs up the works.

OK update Ford Mech states it is not the oil that plugs up the oil cooler but the water side. They said person put wrong coolant in green vs gold, but he pointed out to them they did the last rebuild. he is going to talk to them about a filter for the water going to the oil cooler. Thanks for the suggestions.

I would want to know what exactly is plugging up the water side. Rust? Casting sand?

ford dealer did not say only that water was plugging the oil cooler and causing it to go out.
