Could security system be causing my truck to not start?

started fine in the a.m. just not later that day. When key is turned there is not
even a click. Mechanic asked if I had a 2nd key which I don't so what are
some ways to get the security codes?

Try this: manually lock all the doors except the drivers door from the inside, exit vehicle and lock the drivers door with the key, wait a minute or two then unlock the drivers door with the key and see if it will start. If not then the security system is not recognizing the keys chip or the keys chip has been damaged. If this is the case then there are two choices, one is a very smart locksmith with all the tools to cut you a new key and a system reprogrammer for the security system, or tow it to a dealer to basically have the same thing done. Either way it is not going to be cheap.
