Why temperature guage stay on red

Asked by Oct 20, 2013 at 08:28 PM about the 1990 Acura Legend LS Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My acura warms up for a few minutes then the temperature guage goes to red and stay on red.  My mechanic say the car is not overheating and he think the problem is a bad temperature guage? is he correct or the car has other problems the mechanic overlooked?

Sounds like the sending unit for the gauge is bad. Probably shorted to ground. I'd replace that first and check the wiring going to it as well. HTH. -Jim
