2000 Dodge Dakota front left single light not flashing when turn signal is on.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When i turn my left single light on the light flashes fast telling me theres an issue with
the left turn signal. the left rear flashes but the left front does not. There are three bulbs
in the front left single light that do not light up when the single light is on. but light up
when you have your parking or headlights on. the front left turn signal doesnt respond
to the hazzard lights either. i replaced the flasher thinking that might be the problem
but all it did was return the speed of the flash back to normal but the left front still will
not flash. Im going to take off the front left headlight setup and look for any damaged
wiring or plugs.

I could be a bad bulb if the three were wired in series but I doubt it. There is a open condition in the wire going to the turn signal filaments in the bulb. Trace the wires back until you find the open.

I checked and tested fuses, as well as changed the flasher. no choice but to trace the wires. well see how it goes, hopefully.

Your turn signal/parking lamp is a 2 filament bulb number 3057. It is not uncommon for one filament to fail while the other still functions normally. Change the bulb first, as it is a simple, inexpensive fix. Best guess is that is your problem, not the wiring.

They are all brand new bulbs, but they still will not flash. they turn on when you turn on your parking lights or headlights and thats it. weird.

Take a look at the wiring harness going into the multifunction switch (turn, hazard, washer fluid, high beams, etc) on the steering column.

First check those fuses under the hood and inside the cab again just to be sure they are all fine. Then check the combination flasher under the dash. Its black, about the size of a pack of cigarettes and has one large plug with a bunch of wires going to it. Just make sure its still plugged in (this has the relays in it and clicks when the signals are on). You could get a Haynes manual and check for continuity and power on the appropriate wires to rule out different parts.
