brake pedal a little low

Asked by Flamerockshard Oct 01, 2019 at 04:16 PM about the 2007 Dodge RAM 1500 Sport Quad Cab RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My brakes work fine. If I need to stop quickly no problem, BUT my brake
pedal seems a little low. If I hit the brakes & pump the pedal once,(w/o letting
the pedal come all the way up), the pedal comes up & it feels fine.
My question is: In 12 years I have never removed the brake fluid & then
replaced it with new fluid. Do you think changing the brake fluid will solve the
problem??? NOTE: Brake pads & rotors are relatively new.

I would change the fluid and see if it helps. You need to do it anyway.

Before you drain and replace the brake fluid, check the fluid level in the reservoir. If it is low it is probably the cause of your problem. Fill the reservoir and test drive the car. All good? Now go ahead and drain, flush, and refill your system, bleeding each line as you go.

I just checked it. It is between the min & max lines. It's dark now but gonna top it off in the AM & see how it works. I will let you know what happens. Thank You.!

Regardless, I'm probably going to change the fluid this weekend. I change the brake fluid in my Harley every 3-5 years & my truck has 2x the milage & the fluid is 12 years old; overdue.!!!
