Are you kidding me? Multiple people having this happen within the last 12 hours? Climbed in my car today and found my clock showing 0:00. Tried to reset but hour/minute won't change. Mine is also 2003 Acura TL Type-S. Hackers? Eclipse? This makes NO sense! I guess I'll call the dealership on Monday. But absolutely certain they will be clueless about this....prob want to pull the dash and go exploring...ka-ching!

I just called the Acura Customer Assistance (800) 382-2238. They have received several calls today from 2003 Acura 3.2TL model cars with the same problem. They have no clue as of yet.Supposedly, Acura customers will be informed once a solution is found. The Acura dealership may not have a solution for this either. Why just the 2003 Acura 3.2TL is some what of a mystery. Let's hope a solution is found.

I agree with Tiptoeing, we all should call the Acura Customer Assistance. It is mystifying why all the 2003 model are showing the same problem unless it's been hacked. Maybe the software used on this model was unique and hackers could just get to it.

Happened to my 2001, 3.2. But this morning when I went to look at the map on the navigation, a moments later the clock came back. It states wrong time (didn't get chance adjust), but it's not 0:00.

the clock reads 00:00 on my 2003 Acura CL 3.2 S-type. This happened this past weekend 8/20 and I cannot reset the time. Everything else on navigation works fine.

My 2002 CL-S did this on 8.18.17. Why would Acura want to help with this? Cars that are 15 years old +/- probably won't generate any desire for Acura to find a solution.

I just called Acura customer service and they advised that it appears to be a satellite problem affecting only the 2002 and 2003 models. Engineers are purportedly working on it with no estimated time for resolution. Also, they do not know how they will be communicating the "fix" to the owners. Stay tuned

I've read other blogs where 1998-2001 Acura have this problem too. It's too weird that at about 15 years on Aug 18 many have developed the problem. Again, maybe the Y2K bug?

I suppose we can hope they figure it out but I wonder how long it will take. It would be good PR for them to find a fix since we are all obviously long time owners who will need to replace this car at some point.

I called Acura today (8/22/17) with same problem. They told me thethey are aware of the problem and will call or email me when they find a solution. the number I called is 800-382- 2238... hopefully you will all call to register your complaint.. Maybe there is strength in numbers

I told Acura customer service representative. I have had my 2003 since 2002 March and I love the car and am ready to buy a new one but this problem needs to be fixed in order for me to buy the 2018 Acura TL. Is that going to make a difference?

Called the 800# I was told to take my car to a dealership. They said someone else had reported the same issue with a 2003 Acura TL, I have a 2000 TL3.2. I asked customer service if the would send out an email when they find a solution. She said they don't send out emails unless it's a recall. In other words they don't have a clue.

I am having the same issue with my 2002 TLS since August 17th or 18th. Acura technical is aware of the problem and it is affecting Acura and Honda vehicles of multiple years, models and trim lines with and without Navi systems. They encourage you to call them at 1 800 382-2238 to report your issue in order to try to get a fix for this issue.

I just called the 800# and the nice guy I spoke to said "Don't take your car to the dealer. Nothing wrong with the car. Acura is now aware and is working on a solution with Honda Japan and the Mfg of the GPS unit." How can we all get different answers from the same number? Acura created a case number for me and took contact info. But I agree...no need to take your car to the stealership...they know nothing until Acura tells them.

STOP TALKING TO THE REPAIR TECHS! They know nothing! Call the 800# as listed and give Acura your Vin# and they will contact you when a solution is found.

Same happened to my 2002 TL-S .. I wonder if pulling a fuse for the navi to reset it only ( without disconnecting the battery ) might cause it , the clock , to work again ..

Pulling the Navi fuse does not work. Been there, tried that. The problem is the satellite signal that sends signals and data to our Nav systems. Honda and the Nav maker need to fix it.

Than you .. your point about the sat signal can may well indicate that perhaps sat signal got interrupted across the board , the antenna in the acura TLs aren't working well suddenly, and/or the navi clock has a defect that just started to show up in unison .. ..

After resetting radio likely will present another hassle.. a problem with 2002 TL's radio code is it won't accept the code unless u do it from an underground parking structure where there's nearly no radio signal interference .. my Acura TL has to go thru this each time I reset my radio code but I got it down from experience by going to one parking structure where it'll allow me to reset for sure each n every time ..

Received email from Acura saying reset the radio code. I've owned the car new since 2003 and I've only done that a couple of times when battery was replaced/disconnected. Both times, I was prompted by the word "code" displayed on the radio. I went out and found serial number and reset code in glovebox, but couldn't figure out how to do reset without disconnecting the battery first. I'm not gonna try that on my own so may need some help.

Kristy, it's easy. Buy a 10mm wrench, pop the hood, look at the battery and see the BLACK cable, use wrench to loosen bolt that holds black cable to battery and twist fitting until the cable slides off terminal. Then replace cable on terminal and retighten bolt. Takes 5min.

Well... resetting the radio code didnt work for my 01 RL. Perhaps someone at Acura is trying to keep you occupied for 5 minute while they sort things out.

MarcRL2001, no, unfortunately resetting the code doesn't work. The dealers are clueless about this. Call the 800# listed above, create a file with Acura, and they will contact you once Acura or the GPS maker figure it out.

Same problem with me, I have a 2003 Acura 3.2 TL. I did a brake job this weekend that included swapping all four rotors and I noticed on my way home from work the clock displayed zeros and I can't reset it. I was already thinking I must have move something I shouldn't have. But now I'm starting to believe it was the solar eclipse : )

Sometimes resetting the radio code does not work. Brought car to dealer and he knew right away that there is a bug in the system but if you disconnect the radio antenna cable to the head unit it works. A bit tricky to remove stuff to get to the antenna cable but the dealer did it so many times it took him less than 5 minutes to do it all. With regard to the GPS clock issue. Talked yesterday to Acura Customer Care and they working with Alpine Electronics (vendor of NAVI) and they were able to repeat the problem and they believe it involved a satellite preposition issue and are working on a solution. Acura rep said they would inform people of the outcome if they contacted them.

Listen up !!! When I called Acura to fix the TIME (0:00) issue - they have to clue. I decided to call Alpine Electronics CSR and they aware of this issue and reported to JAPAN for resolution. Once they hear back from them - will let us know.

Yes we are all in it, I have 3 Acuras (2001, 2005, 2014) , only 2001 Tl has 0:0 on the clock. I knew it was a computer glitch as soon as it popped up. We have to wait for a fix. We all need to call Acura and give your info. , they usually contact you if it is a safety issue but this is not, so make sure to call.

I don't drive my 2003 RL that much anymore but found this same issue last night----I was going to reset the NAVI by disconnecting and reconnecting the battery and plugging in the 4 digit PIN but it looks like that ain't gonna work after reading how wide spread the problem is.---guess I'll keep checking back to see if problem is resolved .

I saw dealer today and they have no idea. Suggested the system might be on they way out but I think they were just guessing. They reset the Nav but still 0:00. At least the radio and Nav system still work. I've never upgraded the Nav disk. I wonder if that is an issue.

with so many different units having this same issue at the same time I would think it is a common problem on their end. There has to be some kind of corruption in the transmitting software somewhere---that's my guess

I have put updated discs in both of my cars that have the problem, although neither are very new, because I found the new maps are not much more current than the old. I now use a Garmin for most nav functions. Ironically, the thing I used the most was the clock.

I was looking at another thread on this subject (0:00 clock) and noticed the dates were at about this same time last year. I kinda wonder if this has something to do with the fact that new cars are getting ready to come out and their navigation systems probably require a tweek with new stuff added to be sent up to the satellite .---maybe in the process of tweeking for the new cars they screwed up the clock transmission to the older cars---it may take a while 4 the programmers to figure it out.

My clock converted to 0:00 on August 19, 2017. Called the the Acura dealer. Sussman Accra in Jenkintown PA They told me to bring the car in they would do a diagnostic test for $150.Really! I have a 2001 CL 2 type S. help!

So far, it looks like it involves only 4 model years for Acura and Honda: 2000-2003.

Called the 800#. Said don't take it to a dealer and Acura technicians are aware of problem. Not a problem with the car itself. Might be a downlink problem from the satellite. No est fix time. He said hopefully you will turn you car on one day and the problem will be fixed and/or if you have called they will notify you of steps to fix.

I have an '00 TL, same issue. I upgraded my nav CD a few years ago. I'm curious if all of us here updated their Nav CD? This might be helpful in determining the troubleshooting.

Called the 800 number to get added to the notification list, and it didn't leave me hopeful. She tried to schedule an appointment for me to take it in to the nearest dealer. I said my understanding was that it was a satellite problem the dealer couldn't help with, and she agreed. Leaving aside the question of why she would have me take the car to a dealer she knew couldn't help, I said I'd like to be notified when they found a solution. She added me to the list but she gave the distinct impression that there wasn't much point and this just isn't going to get fixed. I could be misunderstanding, telephone is an imperfect medium, but...

Certainly some errors in the USA Today article, but it's encouraging to see something in print about the problem we are having. I expect Honda will find a way to undo the software update, or whatever else may have caused it. With this many owners affected, the potential for a class-action suit is certainly out there if Honda/Acura blow it off. I would be surprised if they do - they have been a good company.

OK! Big news! Acura just called in response to the case numbers they started on my 2001 MDX and my 2003 Odyssey. They were "swamped" with calls and are working the problem. The team members working it each have about 200 calls to make to people who have called the 800 number. if you get an 800 number calling you without any name with it, go ahead and answer, because that is how the call appeared on my phone. The problem appears to have coincided with the maintenance the government does on the GPS satellites in August of each year. The technical person who called said that last year it seemed to be Ford that was affected, and a few years ago, it was Garmin. The maintenance work is supposed to be completed by the end of this week and it is expected that the problem with our clocks will be fixed. If not, Acura will send out notices to the affected customers, telling them what will be done to resolve the problems. For those that have not called the 800 number discussed earlier (1-800-382-2238), go ahead and call to start a case number. Everyone should also make sure Acura and Honda have the correct mailing address on file for you should they need to send out notices about the problem.

Like everyone who is posting I to have a 2003 Acura TL type S with a 0:00 clock setting. It is as everyone else unable to be adjusted manually and annoying and frustrating as all get out. This happened around the same time everybody else has mentioned. As suggested I will call the 800 number (1-800-382-2238) and get a case number started. And thank you for the detailed update GuruDC8LV, and all that have contributed, it is greatly appreciated! And it's good to know it's not just my car, or something I did to cause this problem!

Just took a call feom Corey at Acura at corporate client relations. Our clocks should be fixed on September 17th. It should fix itself on its own. It had seemed to be a software satellite issue as so I was told. If it does not happen by or after the 17rh I was told to call client relations. Here is our much needed update!:) Michael

I wonder if they will fix my tranny? Same issue 2000-2003 ATL has Tranny problems I have only 77k miles and my tranny is failing. My MBZ has 170k and no problems. Not even a clock does anyone know if they stand behind the transmission at acura?

@GuruD826G - I have a 2000. Bought it 7 years ago with 90K and previous owner had the tranny rebuilt right before I got it. I took it in under warranty and had work done to it, then again 2 years ago at a cost of $2K - shop cut me some slack since they had already done it a few times. After that, there is a rubber plug in the tranny that dryrotted. Tranny slipped on my way to work. As soon as I pulled over, all the fluid went out on the shoulder. Should have been a metal plug. For an Acura, very disappointed. Fortunately, it didn't ruin my tranny. Although, I know the tranny isn't 100% right. Test drove a 2003 with 90K on Saturday (no nav, so no clock problem). Transmission was really smooth in it. Definitely a good one. Issue with this car was rust around the windows and interior door trim chrome was pealing off. Car needed a little too much work for what I was looking for. I would spend the same money to bring my 2000 back to life.

Ah-ha! I might be able to help you with this problem, depending on the symptoms you are experiencing with your transmissions. I would describe the problem I had this way: The transmission "shutters" or "stutters" when it is shifting from 1st to 2nd (usually) when accelerating lightly from a stop. Happens more often on a slight uphill grade. The feeling is like driving over rumble strips. Here's my story: I have 3 Honda-made vehicles that all had the problem, a 2001 MDX, a 2003 Odyssey, and a 2006 CRV. The first to do it was the MDX in about 2004. It was still under warranty. I would leave it with the dealer to drive, but they could never get it to do it. Finally, the tranny service lead asked me to drive it while he rode along. When I made it do it very noticeably on a smooth road, he said, "Whoa, I've never felt something that before"...they replaced that transmission immediately. No problems again until it started again just a few years ago. At around that time the other two cars started to do the same thing. I talked to some other Honda service centers, but they did not know what the problem might be. But by then, I had found a very good independent mechanic. I described the symptoms to him, and he said, "Yep, it's caused by the pickup screen for the transmission oil in Hondas being too close to the bottom of the pan." The screen and the linear solenoids start getting particles in them that begin to clog them up, and the shifting stutters. Here is the magic that he uses which fixed all three cars: 1. Drain the fluid, remove the pan, and clean the pickup screens and linear solenoids. 2. Reassemble and flush with 10 quarts of Honda DW1 fluid. 3. Add one bottle of red Lubegard ARF protectant. 4. Pay the bill - probably less than $200. 5. Done. He also said if Honda owners take their cars in at about 15K-20K miles (early) to get the transmissions flushed and refilled, they will probably never have the problem.

My tranny had recall work done twice, then a third time out of repair warranty period. I complained and dealer discussed with Acura, so I paid $500 and they replaced entire tranny with a new updated model. Fixes don't work. You need the new model tranny. I've got 155,000 miles with 50,000 on new tranny and it's been trouble free.

Glad to know I'm not alone. Not glad to know they don't get have a solution.

Have the clock problem on both of my Acuras, 2002 MDX and 2003 TL Type S. Disconnected both battery cables and let sit for 3 days which discharged the capacitor or back-up battery in the Nav system and required me to enter the Nav code and the radio code. This did not reset the clock. Hope for the September 17 fix.

Me too, Acura 2002 RL - 140K... Still runs well, getts decent milage and looks almost like new.. I think the satellite story is BS. I have always had to change to daylight and standard time manually when the date passes by. Clock went to zero about one week ago and Nav unit in the same box was still working fine -- same module. I looked for a fuse - nothing help there. Repair services, nada. I wonder if Acura will distribute the fix, just turn it back on if it's a satellite problem or let us just sit here and pull what's left of our hair until they decide to honor what's left of their reputation... GW

My TL-S Acura 2002 has a working navi clock as of 9/17 .. very glad the fix was done and the effort was a collaborative one in notifying Acura about it

My TL-S Acura 2002 navi clock is still not working as of 9/18. Software version is 2.11.38, don't know if that makes a difference. I suspect when I call they're going to tell me to take it to the dealer, who will charge me for a diagnostic then tell me they can't do anything.

as a suggestion: if your navi clock is still not working, try parking the car outdoors for a few minutes while the navigation system is powered on ..

I did call customer service and they recommended the dealer. I pointed out that the dealer couldn't fix it and they agreed. They took my contact information to be informed of a fix, but didn't give me a case number and didn't contact me. I'll try the outdoor parking.

My 2002 with updated disk still does not work. I park outside as well.

my 2003 Acura RL is still showing 0:00 as of 9/18---I installed an updated disc a few years ago, the disc says 2009 on it--not sure if that matters ---I tried installing the original disc (2000) but the screen keeps giving me a yellow DVD error message, so i have to stay with the newer DVD.---the software version says 02.11.35 ????------I'm not going to try to do any resetting ( battery disconnect, PIN # ) until I hear more info---I called the 800# a few weeks back to give my info, but I haven't called them back yet about this---waiting to see if more people still have issues

Has anyone had any luck with getting their clock on their Acura fixed from 00:00? This is getting to be very annoying, and it appears a lot of Acura and Honda owners are having issues here. Do we have to purchase a brand new system?

All of you who's clock hasn't corrected itself, what software version are you on? How to check: On the Set up screen, press 'Next' twice. This should tell you your version. It appears that those that are on version 1.xx seem to have their clocks fixed. Those of us on version 2.11.xx are still having th issue. Please confirm that this is true. This will help Acura to fix our cars too. One would think that they realize there are different versions, but that is not always the case with these things. Just have a little patience. Griping doesn't get any of us anywhere. Trying to assist with the fix will.

My 2001 Acura CLS has 2.11.35 software, and the clock still says 0:00. :-( I spoke to customer service. They are definitely looking into this issue with those of us whose clocks did not reset. Man I miss my clock. I will never take it for granted again. lol.

I spoke to Acura today to update them that my GPS clock Vers 2.11.28 was still stuck at 0:00 and they are aware that some cars haven't been corrected and they are working on a satellite solution, but if that fails Acura will contact me via email first then send out a software update fix in the mail to me.

Me too. Just called Acura and the engineers are still working on the problem for the rest of us Acura TL and so forth customers. Keep the faith. However, I know what you mean by not having that clock right there in your face. It's like a pacifier.. Who knew!!!! I think this is a phenomena for the psychologist to study.

Two things. I also have faith in Acura which is why I only take my care to the dealership for service. My car is a 2003 TLS. It has the OnStar analog system which no longer functions since the upgrade to the digital OnStar system. I was really upset about this at the time and am now wondering if this may be the reason 2003 TLS clocks have not been reset. My Questions: Are there any 2003 TLS' with the analog OnStar system out there whose clocks are still set on 0.00. Also, are there ones out there whose clocks have been reset to the appropriate time. Based on the responses the analog OnStar system may very well be our problem. Thanks for any and all responses.

I have 2003 TL-S with non-functioning analog On-Star system. DorisM I was furious when my analog system stopped working, and Acura could not or would not replace or switch to digital system. Many letters, emails and phone calls later, I never did receive satisfaction. So, as far as "faith in Acura" although my 2003 is still performing well, mine has been severely shaken. My clock still reads 0:00 and mine is version 2.11.31

Not sure why I can't say or type anything online without starting an argument. But whatever. I've driven it for 14 years and like I said, I know it's a TL Type S. I've known that since the day I bought it. But if it helps you sleep easier, I stand corrected. I was wrong. I will never do it again. Still don't know what this has to do with discussion about clock reset.

Hi all TL Type S Acura drivers and whomever else that have the clock problem. Thanks to all who defended my short hand and those correcting my short hand. Since I now understand the problem is a Acura engineering issue I will await their resolution of the problem. My problem right now is trying to understand why I miss that clock so much. I shut the Nev off so its dark when I glance at it. However, it comes back on each time I start the car. I really miss my clock. So please hurry up and fix the CLOCK ACURA..... PLEASE AND THANK YOU. Now to the On-Star analog system: It went digital along with the rest of the world. I was just like you Kristy very upset as I depended on it because it is the answer to those of us who have a poor sense of direction. I loved it. For whatever reason the 2003 version was not upgradable. Since I purchased my car in Sept. 2003 when it was known by the dealership that the On-Star would not be upgraded with the digital version I made the case and received a refund for cost of the service for which I had paid in advance. Although I love my car that is the one thing I regret about it and now the CLOCK issue......I pray the digital upgrade is not related to the CLOCK issue.

Yep. My 2003 Acura TL clock is 0:00. My dealer said it is a satellite problem, and that Acura is "aware" of it. This all started about 45 to 60 days ago. The navi works fine, still gives the time left to destination in hours and minutes. The analog On-Star hasn't worked for years since they went digital. I guess Acura didn;'t consider that when marketing the TL, unless they assumed that we all would be trading our 2003 for a newer model soon enough to avoid that problem. Anyway, I'm not holding my breath for Acura to fix the clock problem. I just bought a cheap clip-on clock and have it attached to my AC vent fins. Somehow, I miss the friendly Acura clock on my nav screen. I notice that some of you now have a working clock. No such luck for me.

I have a 2003 TL S Type with On Star and a 2002 MDX without On Star. Both cars have the same software Version 02.11.32 and both clocks are 0:00. Looks like On Star has nothing to do with the clock problem.

I received a call yesterday evening from the Acura team working the problem. They are aware that the Sep 17 software upload did not fix all of the systems that had the problem. They are continuing to work the problem with the remaining units. From all the posts, it appears to now affect only those with the Ver. 2.11.xx DVDs. He is also aware that Honda units are likewise affected. (I have one of each). The person calling did not predict when the "fix" should be in, but he was convincing in his discussion that they are working it and intend to get it resolved. I told him Acura is doing the right thing by working to solve the problem and keeping owners informed.

One can only hope that Acura is the quality dealer they claim to be. We shall see. Interesting, the Acura customer service rep told me this was caused by the solar eclipse, and coincidentally, this began happening about that time. Alien intrusion??? :-)

So I have a Acura TL 3.2 liter of the year 2000. My clock problem is alittle different. Even though the clock is working it is stuck with it being 1 hour behind. Right now it's 8:33pm central time yet my clock says 7:33pm and is stuck in the central time zone. If any of you have this problem and know how to fix it, please let me know,

By the way, I never got any kind of software upload from Acura in Sep 2017. How did you get yours?

Software was uploaded to the satellites, not sent to owners. The problem was caused initially by a software update to the GPS satellite constellation on Aug 17. Now, they are planning to send fixes to that software load. If that doesn't fix it for the remaining units, then they could possibly send new software to the car owners in the form of a new DVD.

GuruD3HJ3, did you try setting the clock? if yours is working, but 1 hour off, you should be able to push "Setup" at the lower right corner, hit the "Next" button once, push "Clock", then you change "time zones", and add or subract "hours". It will let you access "clock" only if you have pushed the "OK" button on the legal BS screen.

Thought I would check with Acura again (800-3822238) regarding the 0.00 clock problem since mine was also not corrected on 9/17.....Supposedly Acura engineers are still working on a fix and will be on a disk that will then be sent to dealers (this should be interesting) with no estimated timetable when it will happen.....and Acura will notify those that have called Acura to report their clock was not fixed earlier.............yawn!!

In regard to reported clock issues with particular navigation-equipped Acura CL, TL, RL and MDX vehicles, Acura has discovered a software calculation error that will self-correct after September 17, 2017. For customers that are still experiencing issues with their vehicle's navigation screen: Please be advised that there will be a software update coming, but it is not available as of yet. No, it is a software error that was uploaded on Aug 17 to the GPS satellites. It now only seems to affect the units with the 2.xx software disks. They are working to fix the error. Batteries have nothing to do with this problem.

Unfortunately I really starting to believe that the problem is in the satellite itself and I doubt that Acura can do anything about it. I strongly believe this because this is October and it has been going on since August.

A software error is what caused it, and a software fix will be needed. They only do uploads to the satellites at certain times. The next one may be sometime this month, but they first need to find a fix to the error. If they determine the software in the satellite cannot be modified to fix the problem for those of us with the 2.xx disks, they might have to fix the disk software and send us new ones. Bottom line is that I believe they will fix it, but it might take time.

I seem to recall there was another person who tried going back to their older (1.xx) disc and it would not work. I still have mine, so I might give it a shot. The units and the discs were done by Alpine. I wonder if they are involved with solving the remaining problems? I assume those using the 1.xx discs now would not be able to go to a 2.xx disc if they wanted to update their maps unless the problem with those gets fixed.

I was the one who tryed using my old nav disc several weeks ago----I just tryed it again with the same result---I get a yellow dvd error message and it says to contact the dealer----the dvd is in perfect condition so evidently after installing the newer version ,the old disc becomes obsolete ??----I didn't try to reset the system by disconnecting the battery because I didn't want to dig a deeper hole---but that might be something I try down the road----can't tell what software version the old disc is since the info screen won't come up but my new disc is 02.11.35---------(this may be apples vs oranges but the older alpine disc has version 2.5 on it --the newer disc has version 2.7 on it---stamped on the outside of the disc)---older disc is from year 2000--newer disc is 2009

I have been told you can tell the version by the color of the disc. But...I guess we need to know what color goes with which version.

Just called Acura Assistance today 10/19/17 and opened a case number regarding the clock showing 0:00 problem. Strongly suggest everyone do the same. They are aware of the problem and will contact those with an open case number of their findings an possible solution when they know more. (800) 382-2238

my clock was set to 0:00 and could not adjust as of August. In Sept the clock started to work again, but 3 hours early off from central time but cannot adjust. With the resent time change its only 2 hour off from CST. This needs to be fixed

Go to Menu and hit the "OK" button. Then go to Setup (next to the clock display), and that will bring up the menu which allows you to adjust the clock to any time you want it to read. The actual numbers displayed by the clock do not come from the satellites. You adjust them manually just like a clock at home. Unlike a time signal sent from a satellite, the clock will not keep perfect time, and you will need to occasionally adjust it.

As of about a month ago, if you are running software 02.xx.xx, the time adjust buttons are greyed out and non responsive. GuruDC8LV, what software version do you have in your Acura?

My software version is Ver 2.05F, this is off the GPS screen. You are correct that the adjust items are grayed out for the clock. When you go to the clock adjust screen the current time is displayed as 0:00. When you go back the time comes back after a short time. Is there a way to fix/update????

My clock issue was fixed, but after reading the latest posts I decided to check my clock today. My clock did not adjust for the recent time change. When I attempted to manually adjust the time, the clock went back to 0:00... When I turned the Navi off and restarted it, the time reappeared though off by 1 hour. My firmware version is 1.09. What a pain this has been...

My software versions (2 cars) are both 2.xx, and my clock is still not working. I assume your software is a 1.xx version and that is why yours started to work again, even though the clock was not reading the correct time. If that is so, the buttons for adjusting the time should now be working. I used to adjust mine occasionally - but not now while it is not working.

Software version 1.xx.xx were fixed back in September with some over the air update. For those of us with software version 2.xx.xx, we are still awaiting our fix. UGH..

I sent email today to ask for update. Three months have passed and I haven't been contacted by anyone at Acura since they assigned my Case#. I'm starting to think this might never be resolved. But I did remind them I have a Case# and I'm still waiting for answers.

Let us know if you learn anything. I did get calls from them a couple of times - once early in the process, and another time after the first "fix" did not resolve the problem with the 2.xx systems. They said they are still working it, but it's now been more than 3 months since the initial software error that caused the problem.

Called Acura this morning, and Chris informed me that they're still working on a patch... will likely require a CD to be issued with an update. I have a case open for this, and they're supposed to contact me once a solution is available. I didn't ask for an ETA -- forgot, but, also likely that they just don't know, as yet. It's nice they're are owning the issue and working a solution, but, I imagine it's not very high in priority. Definitely encourage all to call and get a case opened (800-382-2238) -- the more customer cases they open, the more likely they'll expedite.

I have a new wrinkle. My GPS screen is no longer showing the 0:00 it used to show in large letters across the middle of the screen. The star background is still there. The time is still displayed in small numbers at the bottom right of the screen. Still reads 0:00.

I just called the number above - option 7. They said they'll send me a disc in 4 weeks that will correct the issue but it is just to fix the issue they said I'd put my old disc back in - so no navi update.

Has anyone had issues with the AC feature on the navigation screen? We have a 2002 TL S type. The heat works ok when on auto mode but when we try to use the AC controls to adjust the heat fan on the navi screen the heat cools down and won't warm up. And yeah our clock is stuck on 0:00 also.

GuruZMPG2, I think the A/C & heat functions are just quirky. Mine has always sucked. Sometimes to get heat I've got to increase the heat adjustment to full before it kicks in. Oddly my wife's 2007 RDX had similar problems until the dealer replaced the A/C relay. I'm thinking of doing the same on my '02 CL-S to see what happens.

My 03 TL climate control does the exact same thing. Not all the time, but once in a while. Going from AC to heat seems to be the trigger. I haven't had anybody look at it. Since eventually the heat will come up, I just let it do its thing.

Just called Acura customer service with the 0:00 NAV clock issue. Was told that they do NOW have a solution to the problem which requires you giving them the DVD version # and current mailing address so that they can send a fix DVD with instructions that will resolve the issue. Takes about 4 weeks for the fix DVD to be delivered. So, if not already done, you should call them for the fix.

I just called them about 45 minutes ago. The service tech took my address and the version number of the disk in my car, and told me Acura would send me a fix disk in 3 to 4 weeks, but not to discard the old disk, because it is still needed for navigation. If you haven't registered you car with them yet, they will need more info, like the year, model and VIN.

The clock on my 2000 TL 3.2, firmware 1.09 did return to normal. However, I can no longer manually adjust it (cannot adjust to Standard Time). When I try to adjust it, the clock goes to 0:00. I have reported this latest problem to Acura and this was their reply: "We have added your communication to your case. We are awaiting more information from our engineering team regarding this concern. We will contact you once we have further instructions. We thank you for your patience." I wanted to be sure that, if and when they send out an update, that they will include owner's that have the 1.09 firmware.

I called 1-800-382-2238 (Option 7) and after getting my information, they said a patch DVD would be shipped within 4 weeks. Sounds like they are going to fix it. Nice job Acura!

This is promising but frustrating at the same time. When I went to my local dealer, the "Acura people" had recently been there to address this issue. I was told there would not be a DVD sent out, or given to the dealers, but that it was issue with their satellite that they were trying to resolve. The Service guy seemed a bit frustrated because he said so many have been coming in asking about a DVD fix and such. He said they are not getting one and had no idea where that idea came from. I just shook my head, said thank you, and left. I will call the number again and see what story I get this time. Thanks to everyone who continues to post their experience. It just lets us know we aren't alone with whatever we are told.

My clock was fixed as of Sep 17th, but it didn't automatically set the clock back with Daylight saving Time. So it reads an hour fast, and when I try to manually set it, the clock shows all 0:00, so I can't either increase or decrease the hour. I guess the clock will be alright when the next Daylight Saving Time change. Anyone else with this same situation?

@Ptatohed Acura called me last Friday. Called them back Monday, verified my case # and software version number. Was told that DVD/CD will be sent out in 3-4 weeks. If I'm lucky, I'll have it before holiday travel. If not, at least I know there is a potential for a fix. I'm not fully convinced that this will result in a complete fix. If anyone has received their disc, I'd be happy to hear how they made out. 2000 TL version 2.11.38

Acura called today. I had to verify info for them. They wanted to know what version and year the DVD was that I was using (printed on outside of disc)---mine is ver. 2.70A and the year is 2009---(for my 2003 RL) She told me that I would be receiving a disc in 3-4 weeks that would correct the software---I would still use my current DVD once this is completed-----thought I would pass this on---and by the way my caller ID showed "TOLL FREE CALL"-- I usually don't answer this type of call with all of the telemarketers hounding me, but for some reason I did this time--guess I got lucky

I just called Acura, gave them the ver of my nav. CD (Ver.2.A0). I was told I will receive a CD to correct the clock issue in 3-5 weeks. I suggest not to wait for a call from them, just call and with your CD ver. it will be sufficient. Good luck

May be it is that the service contract between Acura and Satellite Company was due on August 2017,and Acura does not want to renew the service contract, then the Satellite Company cut off the signal. We should ask Acura to renew the Satellite service contract.

Got my fix disc today, followed instructions to the letter, and now I have a "black screen of death". Well, not exactly. When I turn the ignition to II, Nav does light up and I was able to change to clock to correct time. But, once I start the car only a black screen is there. Go figure. In these situations I walk away for while, maybe a day, then come back to take another look. I'll let everyone know tomorrow. Acura called on 12/12 2002 Acura RL DVD version 2.60

I already have the disk (2013 Black DVD V2.A0) mentioned above installed in my car. It was in there before this time problem occurred. That disk has been available for several years, and I believe it is the final update anybody will be getting for their vintage Acura. So upgrading is not possible for me, and I still have the problem. Glad Rosemary was able to get her clock working, but most of us are still waiting. Looks like a fix disk is starting to show up, but may not work. Keep your fingers crossed!

I too already have the black disk, and I called to confirm that I have the most recent version. When I visited my local dealership, they had just been visited by corporate who told them that a disk is not the fix, and it is a satellite issue. They also said there would be nothing sent to the dealerships for a fix. So this is still an issue in my car, and it looks like many others. Still hoping whatever the fix is, that it comes in the new year!!

I moved to Springfield, VA in late 2006. For those not familiar, they call that area in Springfield where I-95, I-395 and I-495 come together the "mixing bowl"...a nightmarish combination of high-speed vehicle maneuvering enhanced with human anger, stupidity and fear. They had recently reconfigured many of the entrance/exit ramps (to make it more user friendly....yeah, whatever! ) and when I forked over nearly $200 for the latest update sometime around 2007, I found none of that new route info had been included on my disk. It was still telling me to take ramps that were no longer there. I was new to the area and my GPS had me running in circles most of the time. That was the last one I purchased. I decided not to waste any more money on GPS "updates." I now use my phone. I still hope a clock fix is on the way, but I'm starting to have a feeling this won't end well.

Yes, map updates are not Acura's best feature. When I go to a known problem area (like you describe above), I bring a third party GPS with me (or my smart phone) that can be updated regularly. The Acura GPS will eventually get you there, but you may be "lost" for a while. You just have to be "smarter" than the Acura GPS, like reading road signs and following them verses the GPS. The real problem is when you try to put in an address that the data base doesn't know. You know it exists, but the little lady inside the GPS is clueless. Putting in an address the GPS does know that is on the same street or near where you are going sometimes helps.

just received my correction disc today by way of FedEx. My clock problem is solved but not without a bit of head scratching----the disc came with instructions which has 11 steps--the 1st step has you starting the car, the next several steps deal with ejecting the navi disc putting in correction disc and watching the screen for various messages---- very simple until I got to step 10 which says to "turn ACC off and wait 1 minute---step 11 says to start car and unit should work---------since steps 1-9 had the car running the whole time I assumed that turn ACC off meant to turn the car off---well that ended up giving me a blank screen--dead--nothing . I then started to wonder if ACC meant automatic climate control--not sure what its got to do with the navi unit but I turned it off waited 1 minute and I was able to get the screen to work when the ignition switch was in the on position but not when the car started???--I'm not sure exactly what I did after that---a series of trying to have the ignition switch off for a minute then on or vise versa but any how I eventually have it working now---the clock was originally 3 hours slow but I was able to correct that by selecting eastern time zone------I know what I've written is probably a bit hard to follow but I really don't know what exactly I did --thought this might help anyone who has a blank screen after doing the correction

Thanks. Everything made sense except the AAC issue. When you start the car before installing the new disc, do you also turn ON the AAC? I ask because down a few steps your directions say "now turn off AAC." What connection is there between clock and AAC?

whr617 (and anyone else) ACC should represent accessories. The accessories would be the radio, climate control, etc. Sounds like after step 9 you need to turn the car off and put the key in ACC position. Can't wait for my disc to come!

Thats what I originally thought was that ACC was the accessories position on the ignition switch but by having the car running as per the instructions and turning ACC off which would mean shutting off the car----- that gave me a blank screen????---I thought surely it doesn't mean climate control--but after trying that it eventually worked--maybe it was a fluke that the other actions that I took while I was scratching my head (dealing with turning ignition switch on and off)?????whatever I did it worked---I just think they could have explained step 10 a little better(turn off ACC)--when the car was still running

step 1 has you to start car to turn on system----from here through step 9 the car would be still running---step 10 says to turn off ACC AND WAIT 1 minute----step 11 says to start car and unit should operate as normal;---mine didn't---blank screen that didn't change--as if it died---when I restarted car for about the tenth time I decided to hit the off button on the climate control waited 1 minute turned car off again ---when I restarted I thought that I saw the screen blink as I turned the ignition switch to start but it went blank while car was running---I turned it back off and placed the ignition switch in the on position and the navi screen came on---from here I don't know exactly what I did to get to work while the engine was running--it just involved playing around with different ignition switch positions while waiting for a minute between each try?????---maybe climate control had nothing to do with it maybe I needed to wait 2 minutes since it was -10 degrees at the time I was doing this???

My problem is I don't know what "Turn off ACC" means. The ignition switch has 4 positions. 1. Off, 2. Accessories, 3. Run, and 4. Start. So if your car is running after step 9, and you turn the ignition switch to position 2, that lets the accessories run (including the GPS screen), but the engine will stop. Now what? Wait a minute with the ignition switch in Accessories? Then what? Restart the engine? That's not really turning off the Accessories, it leaves them on, but stops the engine. Has anyone tried calling Acura and asking them what they mean? I don't have my disk yet, so I don't know exactly what the instructions say, so I don't know what question to ask Acura.

I'm not sure this helps thosw of us that already have the current disc. So unhappy right now. Glad for those of you that have a resolution. Thanks for the chuckle GuruZGCLT.

What current disk? Acura has sent out a "fix" disk, totally separate from the navigation disk. I'm not sure what "current" disk you are referring to.

it seems to me that who ever wrote the instructions forgot that they had you "start" the car in step 1 ---I think putting the ignition switch in the accessories position would be all you need to do---then step10 would make sense to " turn ACC off"--with step 11 having you "start" the car after waiting 1 minute-------------------------something I just now discovered-- maybe its a glitch that is only going to effect my car but I noticed that I can go out and start my car and the navi works--if I shut it off and restart a few seconds later I get a blank screen---if I then wait over ~30 seconds then restart the car it works???--might explain problems from my previous posts--I don't think this is a big deal but its confusing when you're sitting in a car in below zero conditions trying to figure out why this and that happened-----maybe I shouldn't post so quickly after experiencing things that don't make sense to me or anybody else--sorry if I'm confusing everybody

Received my "FIX" disc today and followed the included instructions. Easy peasy...worked like a charm and I have my wonderful clock back!!! If you haven't called Acura to file a report, do so now. 1-800-382-2238. FYI I drive a 2003 CL Type S.

@Liver, it was mentioned earlier that the "fix" was the 2012/2013 navigation disc (current version). If what Rosemary was speaking of was an actual fix disc, then my mistake. I will call them again, but was told there was no disc fix. Can someone please clarify what the actual fix disc looks like as it would seem to me, it would be a new navigation disc. Thank you!

See attached photo. It is not a new navigation disc. It is a disc to update the navigation system so your clock will work again. You then reinstall your navigation disc when the update is complete. The instructions come with the update disc.

I have never ruined a curve before. I am very proud of myself. LOL! To clarify, I called Acura to get the actual Fix Disc. When I pulled out my old navigation disc to give them "my disc version", I realized it was from 2009. I decided to order an updated navigation disc after I called for the Fix Disc. I hope that makes sense. There is actually a separate Fix Disc. I have no idea why it worked for me. Luck was on my side. I heading out now to buy a lottery ticket... lol!

Alright. I got my DVD today. I was unsuccessful, but my clock is back, just 2 hrs off. Here are thoughts for you all! 1. Before you do anything - MAKE A COPY of the fix DVD. It appears to be just like a software DVD that once you install the software, it writes code back to the DVD and it doesn't run the file to upload the code. 2. As stated, easy to run through steps 1-8. Step 9 is to re-insert your Navi DVD. When you do, you are supposed to get message that reads "Navigation unit door is open or no DVD or disc is installed" (or something very similar). Got to that point. Here's the sticking point. 3. The next step (step 10) reads, "Turn ACC off and wait for 1 Minute." Okay, so this is where there is a language barrier (from my personal experience and humble opinion) and why this is confusing. I think that when they wrote the instructions, you were supposed to start the process with the key on, but the car not started. So, if you insert your key and turn the ignition one click, the navi should load up. If it is loaded, I would try the process from here, then when you 'Turn ACC off,' you are turning off the ignition, allowing the DVD drive to stop spinning, which is why you need a full minute before restarting the car. My #3 is where I got stuck. My interpretation was that you had to turn the ignition off for a minute and restart the car, similar to whr617. When I did this and the navi loaded up, I got an error message that I had an incorrect disc and to see the dealer. Take that with a grain of salt because this is hard coded into the error messages and you should NOT go to a dealer, as we have seen from previous comments. I figured, I would leave the car run, open the DVD drive, remove the disc to get a different error message (nav door open or no disc) and I did. I reinserted my Navi DVD and closed the door, but the message didn't go away for the first 30 seconds, so I shut the car off, waited a minute, then put the ignition in ACC mode to activate the navi. My clock came back and looked normal, however, when I pressed the set up button only the first set up screen appeared and I couldn't get to the clock settings (clock was 2 hrs fast). I should have been more patient - I think it just would have taken time for the DVD to load into the memory. Instead, I started messing with things and after an hour of tinkering, and freezing in the Mid- Atlantic USA, I'm calling it a night. I'll pick it back up when it warms up. BE PATIENT!!

To SP365: Easy Peasy for you, maybe. A few questions: Did you start the car as instructed in step 1, or did you just turn the ignition to Accessory? If so, did you leave the car running while you uploaded to fix disk? If not, was the car not running for the procedure until you got to the end, where you inserted the navigation disk back in and turned the ignition switch from Accessory to off to stop the ACC (step 10), waited a minute, then started the car to boot the navigation disk?

To Rob: My disc is different from yours probably because the Nav disc we have may be a different version. I was asked to take my nav disc out and read them the version I have. That may be the difference.

To Liver: I started the car as instructed "1. Start Vehicle to turn on System". I left the car running and removed the Navi disc. I inserted the update disc and watched the progress bar complete and it then restarted the system and indicated the error of the wrong disc in the system. I then removed the update disc as instructed and inserted the Navi disc that I removed earlier. The car has been running all this time. I then shut the car off and waited at least a full minute. I restarted the car and pressed OK when the system came up. You have 2 choices here. you press OK or SETUP. Press OK. You then can select SETUP on the next screen to see the clock function. My clock indicated the incorrect hour, but the correct minute. I then corrected the hour and all is well so far. I ordered the latest Navi disc, 2013 is the final year update. I have yet to install it and hope it doesn't create a problem. As stated before, I have a 2003 CL. These instructions worked for me, but may not be the same for every model.

Just talked with Steven at Acura (800/382-2238 x7) regarding the 0.00 issue for my '01 MDX. I had called twice before and had an open case. He said the update disc was available for certain GPS software versions. Needed the current version of my GPS DVD (mine is V2.70A). He confirmed an update was available for this version. Said it will take five business weeks to arrive (Huh? Would they have sent it if I hadn't called for the third time?). Said this is a software update disc-not a new GPS disc. Start the car/take out the current GPS disc....insert repair update disc - follow the directions......take out the repair disc.....and re-insert the current GPS disc you just took out-don’t toss it!! (Note: He mentioned there was also some type of daylight savings not working but didn’t connect it to the 0.00 problem? Don’t know what others have experienced on this issue for those that have received the 0.00 update disc? Is there a daylight savings update problem?)

well, after periodically turning system on and off for the past day I've come to the conclusion that mine works maybe 50+% of the time (getting a blank screen ) when it comes up the clock is good---I have noticed if I try to restart after being off for under 20 sec. it never works---if I wait 30 sec or more it works most of the time but not all the time---very frustrating-----tried cleaning disc of fingerprints --no luck------I have a 2003 RL that is using a 2.70A disc

To GuruDCMKS: After owning my Acura for about 10 years, I have never had the clock update for Daylight savings time automatically. I have always had to adjust the hour forward or back.

Been dragging my feet. Got my case # a long time ago, but hadn't called to provide Software Version # (and of course no one had contacted me to get it). But I called today, provided the info, and was assured I would be sent the fix disc pronto! After reading all your lessons learned, I'm really glad I waited. My frustration meter peaks quickly, so doubt I would've had patience (or success) with those confusing instructions. Thank you all for sharing! Very helpful!

This info is for affected Honda vehicles: Acura is doing a good job addressing this issue, but only a couple of Honda models (including my 03 Odyssey) have the problem. When I first called Acura last August, they gave me case numbers for my 2001 MDX as well as the Honda. Today, I called the Acura folks at the number we all know by now, and they were very helpful getting my "fix disc" ordered for the Acura (quoted 3-4 weeks to receive mine). But, since Honda is a different division, the Acura guy transferred me to them for that "fix disc". The Honda person was clueless! At least the one that took the transfer call knew nothing about the problem. She even checked with a few others around, and they also knew nothing. All she could recommend is looking at Hondanavi.navigation.com to learn about an "update" disk. Turns out that disc is just the latest nav software disc. So, I called the guy back at Acura, and he said only a few Hondas were affected and they may not be aware enough to assist me. He "bent" the rules for me and ordered the "fix disc" through Acura for my Honda, so all should be resolved eventually. This is kinda fun, huh?

Will not replace our 2002 Acura TLS with another Acura. The "anti-theft" feature of the radio is idiotic. The problems with the reset and the clock are not acceptable, especially since Acura has had years to fix the issue, with little or no care for their customers. I'll try the 800 number to see if they will sent the fixit disc.

@Liver, what do you mean a defective disc? I received my disc and tried installing yesterday only to continue to receive the yellow screen saying "disc error" and then "unformatted" - multiple attempts to get my system to restart and launch the 'downloading software' resulted in that message appearing once and promptly turning into "Please check disc" - my system did not update. I have version 2.70A maps disc in my nav and all works fine except for the clock. I called into Acura and the agent said there were no engineers who could look at my case last yesterday and she would call me back by Friday (1/5) this week. I believe the disc is defective and they'll have to send me another one. I even tried getting into the diagnostic menu and force downloading the disc to no avail. Immensely frustrated. If another disc needs to be sent to me, I expect they do so with urgency given my experience - we shall see...

I mean defective disk because the download did not complete, hung up at about 4 dots from the end, then the screen read "Check Disk". I was on the phone with Acura during this process, and we both concluded there was something wrong with the disk, so they are sending me another one. However, this may not work either, because after I removed the fix disc and re-inserted the nav disk, the download screen reappeared, and the down load seemed to complete, and the system rebooted. I can now get to the clock page to adjust the time (which I couldn't do before because it was greyed out), but pushing the buttons does not change the time. Clock still reads 0:00. So unless the replacement disc completes the download like it is supposed to, I may still have the same problem. To Guru5TKYT, I suggest to you that Acura is going above and beyond any reasonable warranty to try to fix this problem. I doubt seriously whether you would get too many other manufacturers to do what Acura is doing after the warranty period is expired.

I agree with you that Acura has "gone above and beyond" what other companies might do with this problem...but...the warranty period has no relevance in this situation, because they caused the problem in the first place with the defective update to the satellites last August. I see it as being analogous to the unending air bag recall. Nothing is wrong with our nav systems. The problem is with their latest software. I think they are doing the right thing now.

@Liver - thank you for clarifying. You made it further than I did since I only got the download screen to appear once, which was after multiple attempts, and none of the download dots completed, it immediately went to 'please check disk' - all repeated tries after that resulted only in yellow screen 'disk error', then 'unformatted'. No word yet from Acura agent, I expect to hear from them tomorrow.

Wondering if this thread is closed for some reason. I've got a call into Acura tech support and will report back when I hear from them. Quick summary is I installed my fix disk about 3 weeks ago, my nav system and clock show up only in ACC position, when I start the car nav goes totally blank. What disk do you have in the cd drive now? I was getting blank screens until I abandoned attempting to use my "supposedly" damaged fix disk, and went back to the nav disk. The clock still does not work, but the nav does. Acura is sending me a new fix disk, but have serious doubts whether that will actually fix the clock. We shall see.

the issue GuruZGCLT is having sounds similar to the way mine started---I have a 2003 RL using a 2.70A disc---I didn't notice until many trys later that once I get the screen to come up and I turn the ignition switch off it will not come back up unless I wait at least 20 seconds to restart the car???? It doesn't matter if the ignition switch was in the ACC position or if the car was running. So if you stop at the ACC postion then decide to start the car the screen is going to momentarily blank out while you crank the engine and not come back on since its been less than 20 sec( at least that is what I'm experiencing)----most of the time when I start the car the screen works --the times that it doesn't I wonder if while turning the ignition past the ACC position I'm not quick enough and the screen gets a signal to come on then it goes back out during cranking and stays out because of the 20 seconds issue????-----curious if anyone else ends up with a similar situation---Its been about a week since I used the fix disc and as weird as it sounds the 20 seconds thing is holding true every time I try (doesn't have to be exactly 20 --just more than 20)---I contacted Acura and they said that they hadn't heard that anyone else had called in with that problem yet----its still early in the game I guess

To any and all, your software update disk, did you have to call Acura or did it just get sent to you from the case you opened with Acura Client Relations? The reason I ask is that I just called Acura Client Relations and the Client Specialist seemed to be somewhat clueless on the process to obtain a fix disk. I had opened a case in October 2017 and have been expecting Acura to mail me a fix disk. From my call I was left with the impression that unless I had called I might not be getting a disk. Also, even though they saw my open case where I gave them all my information, VIN, software version etc, I had to give all this information to the Client Specialist. UGH. He informed me that I should have the fix disk in 3-4 weeks..

I opened a case months ago. Hadn't heard anything, but phoned them recently to make sure I hadn't been forgotten. The rep who answered was very familiar with our problem and had no trouble at all. She confirmed my mailing address and software version # and said she'd get disk in the mail right away. Doubt I would have gotten anything if I hadn't called back though. So definitely recommend that everyone call if they haven't checked recently.

So I got my clock fix it DVD today. (‘01 MDX Navi Software V 2.70A). (The fix it disk they sent was dated Nov 2017 and had 2.12.70 printed on it and right below this it stated Applies to 2.70, 2.70A). Was supposed to be five weeks for delivery but it came in exactly one week after I called again on Jan 3 - I already had an open case since late August and called again in October but they hadn’t sent anything until I called again Jan 3. Came in an oversized Fed Ex Box (about 12x12x3”). The disk was in a typical DVD plastic case. First thing I noticed was I could her plastic pieces rattling around in this “way to big” box with no packing, padding or anything....just the disk in the case. Upon opening the box parts of the plastic case were broken but fortunately the disk was still all intact. (Come on Honda….you should be better than tossing a tiny DVD in a big box with no padding or packing knowing it would be a football during its travels). I followed the directions. I did not start the car as suggested in Step 1. I looked in my original owners Navi DVD manual and it states using ACC (Accessories key position) to turn on the Navi system is fine and can be used to eject and/or reinsert the disk. Starting the car is not required. Ran the fix it disk and it took maybe 2-3 minutes (steps 2 -9). Ejected the fix it disk after step 9 and inserted my original Navi disk. For brief second when inserting the Navi disk I could see the green clock at the correct time. Eureka!! After inserting the Navi disk (and closing the Navi door) I turned the key to off from the ACC position. Now the fun began. I waited about 10 minutes (to answer a phone call) (one minute is suggested) before actually starting the car as required per step 10. When I started the car a black screen of death showed up………….no map………no clock………no anything – just a black screen!! I waited about 5 minutes and nothing changed. Turned the car off and thought about running the fix it disk again but decided to not do it. After about another 15 minute wait I started the car again and decided to drive the car to see if that did anything. Just as I got ready to pull out of my driveway the Navi start screen started – with the green clock at the correct time – I never had to change the clock time - and the map showed up as normal. Drove the car around a couple of blocks and back home. All was fine. Turned the car off. Waited about 10 minutes and started it again – and the black screen of death was back – total blackout again – no clock or map. Waited about ten minutes and nothing so turned the car off. Came back out about 30 minutes later and still a blackout and drove around block – still a blackout. Its now been about 4 hours and I just tried it again and everything worked – both map and correct time on clock. Will try everything again tomorrow and see what happens. Very frustrating!!

Since the "fix disk" isn't working, hopefully Acura is waiting until they fix the "fix". Those of us with the black screen are worse off then before. At least then we had a Navigation system even though the clock didn't work. ptatohed....I"m not sure there is a consensus, but I do believe most followed the instructions as closely as possible which was to start the engine first. I did start my RL per the instructions, resulting with a blank screen, like most but not all.

to those of you that is experiencing a blank screen--Can you put your key in and turn your ignition switch to the ACC position and get it to work? What seems to be happening to mine is that this fix is causing the navi disc to reboot every time it sees a pause in power--this takes about 20 seconds--therefore if you turn your key "slowly" past ACC which allows the navi to start, it will shut back down while you're cranking, giving you a blank screen once the car is running----try to turn your key quickly past the ACC position while starting the car----I'm not really any kind of expert on software/computers,etc--so basically I can only say what I've been experiencing for the past week----------once the navi starts it will not restart until it is off for 20 seconds?????reboot time????---I'm using a 2.70A disc in my 2003 RL --this may just be isolated to the 2.7 discs--or maybe its just my car only?????

To GuruDCMKS : Very frustrating, almost worse than the original problem, not knowing whether or you will be able to use your nav or not. Seems to me Acura is fishing around for a solution, and don't really know how to fix it.

1/11/18. Just received a call from Acura Regional Service representative responding to my call of 1/9/18. He gave me the service department # for my local dealer, told me to make an appointment, call him back to let him know when so he could inform the dealer of the situation. I was assured the situation would be fixed at no cost to me. I have no idea what Acura has in mind. Quick recap so you don't have to search. 1. Opened ticket early Nov. 2. Received a call from Acura on 12/12 and I gave them my DVD version #. 3. Received my "fix" DVD early in January, ran the fix program, ended up with a blank screen. Called Acura at 800/382-2238 informing them of my blank screen and asked for help.

I requested my disc on 1/2 and it arrived today (less than two weeks). I had to follow the directions exactly - but still having to start my car a few times before the install disc actually worked (it failed 2 times). Anyway, once it was all said and done, i have my clock back as well. It came up on eastern time (similar to SP365's experience), but that's an easy fix. Good luck to everyone else.

Follow-up to my post of a couple of days ago. Black screen of death still happens but………….I found by turning the key from the OFF position to ACC position the map the clock appear and work fine. Turn key to OFF and then to ON position “right away” – screen is blank. If I wait about minute or so and turn key to ON position the map and clock work fine. Since the NAVI system is used when driving – If I start car and go thru ACC position and ON position “slowly” the screen is blank. But if I start car and “rapidly” go from OFF to START (thereby rapidly going thru ACC and ON positions) the map and clock appear without problem. If I turn the key off and quickly try to restart the car without any wait time the screen stays blank – so again - if I wait about a minute and then re-start the car “rapidly” turn the key (from OFF to START) the map and clock show up as normal. Seems like if NAVI screen is blank – wait a minute before retrying to turn key again but turn the key “rapidly” from OFF to START!! I hope this makes sense. This so far has worked for me! But who knows why this happens and if it will change?

Marti, do you recall your Nav disk version. I see that SP365 had v. 2.80 or 2.90 and I'm wondering if there is a relationship to disk version and success of the fix disk? My unsuccessful attempt was with v. 2.60.

I have an appointment with my local dealer (as per instructions for Acura customer relations) and I have a prediction that I truly hope is wrong. I know this sounds really, really cynical but I won't be shocked if my RL Nav will not be fixed, but Acura will say they sent me a fix disk, even went so far as having a dealer work on it, they've done all that can be done. Sorry. I say this because my dealer had no clue about the Nav clock problem (exactly what others reported earlier) and if Acura CS knew they had a fix at this time they would have told me when they called. Hope I'm wrong. I will report what happens. Hey! Maybe I'm getting a complete new system!!!

I'm sorry to see a lot of you are still having problems getting your clock and/or nav system to work properly. I'm curious to know if everyone's instructions are the same for installing the update for the clock display issue. I've seen some say they did not start the car as per instructions, and put the key at the ACC position on the ignition switch. Mine and at least one other person's instructions said to start the car. Maybe doesn't matter...just wondering. I believe my current nav disc version for 2012 is 2.80? My update disc to fix the clock is 2.12.80 which applies to nav disc versions 2.80, 2.90, 2.A0 (pictured somewhere above in this conversation) I had a 2008 nav disc that is 2.70A but that version really had issues. I would be driving on a trip and it would just stop working and kept trying to restart without success until I would stop for awhile and the would work for another 100 or so miles before repeating the problem. And it would ALWAYS fail when crossing exactly at the Oregon California border line on I-5. NAVTEQ MAPS said there was probably something wrong with my nav unit. NOT! I purchased the last nav disc dated 2013, but I'm afraid to install it after reading all the problems you all are having. I'm afraid my clock won't work again or even worse. My system is working fine after I installed the "fix" disc for the clock. No issues at all when starting, clock works every time and nav system works too. It would be interesting to know if people using a certain version "fix" disc are all having failures or success or if it's random.

SP365, you ask a very good question. My Nav disk is v. 2.60 and my fix disk is 2.12.60 (says applies to 2.60) I too have been wondering if some fix disk work, while others don't. That would explain the different experiences.

My Nav disk is v2.70a and my fix disk is 2.12.70 and did not work. Continue to get the yellow screen saying "wrong disc" and then "unformatted." After repeated attempts (10+) only twice got to the display where it says "downloading software" to immediately change to "check disc" and the process stops. It has never displayed the downloading bars to show progress. I called into Acura Client Relations the day after trying and have since called back in twice since I've not heard back from them. The last call I requested a new fix disk be sent to me as it appears my current disc may be corrupt, not formatted properly, etc., and still have yet to hear back from Acura. It's been over a week since I received my fix disc and trying... Just frustrating to say the least...

My version is 2.50. My disk in enroute, so no updates here yet. But I will say I'm afraid to install the fix once it arrives due to these experiences I'm hearing about. The $6 clipon auto clock is sounding better and better. I'm struggling to understand why it would matter if you installed with engine running or not. Seems to me Nav system just needs power to operate and engine running (or not) would be irrelevant. I'm not a trained Acura Technician, though....so maybe I'm wrong.

My experience what that I had to start and stop my car a few times. ACC only did not work. My instructions do say to start the car. It does look like everyone had a different experience. I have a 2003 TL.

1/15. I took my RL to the dealer as instructed by Acura cs on 9/11. Service manager had not heard from Acura cs like I was told would happen. He was aware of the Nav/clock problem but didn't know of a fix to the fix disk problems we're having. Not an encouraging visit today.

Got fix disk today. Software Ver 2.50. Tried using only ACC mode to do entire installation because car is in garage and it's 17 degrees outside. But half way through, the progress bar froze up and I got "check your disk" error message. I turned ACC off, waited a few minutes and started over. This time, I started the engine. Not sure if that was the problem, but I can say fix disk loaded quickly and completely the second time. Followed instructions and inserted Nav Disk back in after I got "incorrect disk" message, turned off the car, and waited 1 minute. Restarted and everything (clock and Nav) is working fine. No black screen. No sign of trouble (so far!) I can confirm that ACC step (#10) was confusing because at NO TIME (during my second try) did I have the car in ACC mode. It should just say turn the car engine (ignition) off. I hope this is the happy ending I was wishing for!

LOL! If I had read Marti's comment before starting, I would have skipped the ACC only attempt and probably got it to work on the very first try! I was so scared to even try the disk...thinking it would kill my Nav function. But so far, so good!

Hurrah!! Hurrah!! Fix disk worked! Followed the instructions, i.e started the car, stopped the car after disk completion. waited 2 minutes for good measure, started the car back up. Bam! Clock was there, showing some oddball time, but as able to change it to the correct time, hour and minute. Shut off the car, waited about 1 minute, restarted it, and clock was still there, nav functions all working, etc., etc. No blank screens, no glitches of any kind. I may have broken the gender curse! I'll wait until tomorrow to decide that. Thank you Acura and all you CarGurus who braved the new frontier of time restoration. Seems like if you just persevere, you will prevail. Is time travel next?

Yeah, and it was still working this morning. However, I did notice that the nav system rebooted all on its own while I was driving, so I hope that was a one time glitch, and does not get frequent or recurring.

Liver Guy, I wonder what updating clocks have to do with a map GPS system? Maybe the clock time is imbedded in the GPS. Another head scratch for Acura.

The whole principle of GPS is based on time. All of the satellites in the GPS constellation have very precise clocks that are synchronized to exactly the same time. Ground radar stations track the satellites very carefully to determine their exact position relative to the the earth. The satellites are all sending out the correct current time, as well as a their unique identification to GPS receivers on the ground and in the air. Our navi units are all GPS receivers and they pick up the clock signals from the satellites that they can "see". Each satellite is a different distance away from the receiver, so when the time signal is sent by the satellites, it takes a different amount of time for each signal to reach a particular receiver. (The speed of a radio signal is the same as the speed of light - 186,000 miles/second. Pretty damn fast, but still finite). As a result, the value of the time signals that reach the GPS receivers are all slightly different - a signal sent from farther away has to have been sent a little earlier than one sent from a closer satellite for the signals to reach at the same instant. The GPS receiver then compares the time values received from 4 (or more) satellites, and knowing from the ID codes sent with the time values, knows where those satellites are located. Doing some geometric calculations, the GPS receiver can then determine exactly where it is relative to the earth. Think of it as a baseball field. You are standing somewhere on the field, and you know where 4 players where located on the field when they each threw a ball, at the same speed, toward you. The balls they threw all hit you at exactly the same time, but you know they came from different distances. The fielders all had their watches synchonized, and just before they threw their ball, each marked the time on their ball. You look at the balls that hit you, and they all show a different time, so now you know how far away the fielder was that threw it. Now you have all the information you need to calculate where you are on the field. It's a long answer to why the GPS receivers know the exact time and can do the calculations to show you where you are on a map - even if the display reads 0:00 or any other number.

Thanks GuruDC8LV for the detailed answer. Every now and then my GPS would tell me to "turn left" into the center divider on the freeway and I wonder if this was an early indicator that our systems were losing track.

D Filice, I have experienced similar things but best I can tell, it's just because our map info is out of date. I purchased my last update sometime around 2011. I mentioned in an earlier post that it was last update I ever purchased because I found the map info wasn't really current on major highways in my area....basically outdated from the moment I installed it. I drive to NC often to visit my brother and there's one spot where it tells me to turn left, but there is no left.....access to that road is now a right exit ramp that loops you around to that road because they reconfigured that interchange sometime in recent years. My 2003 has very low mileage and I plan to keep it forever (or close to it), but sometimes I find myself thinking, "new technology sure would be nice!"

More likely the maps were out of date and were done before the median was there. Sometimes the calculated location of the car lags the actual location, which might be an indication of communication interruptions with the satellites.

I have a 2001 and a 2003, both with low mileage. I like the cars a lot, and I really like the fact that I can see out of them. If the newer cars had better visibility, I would switch now, but I'm not quite ready to let technology tell me when I'm about to back into something or when not to change lanes. I prefer just looking out the windows. I was putting gas in my 01 MDX a couple of months ago when a guy with a new MDX pulled up to the pump behind me. After he started pumping gas in his, he walked over and asked what year model mine was. He said he traded one like mine for the new one, and now his wife doesn't like it because she can't see out of it. That's what the governments crash standards have done to all of today's cars.

Yes, I completely agree! I love the visibility too! When I first bought my TL Type S I had been driving SUVs for the previous 15 years. I was used to sitting up high where I could see everything. I thought it would be scary driving a sedan so low to the ground, but it turned out great! I took my 03 in for service one time and they gave me a loaner....it was the newly styled 2004 model. I hated it! I felt like I was driving blind. And I said the same thing at that time......"well, they really screwed up the visibility!"

D and GuruDC8LV, yes, GPS location is based upon time, and a whole lot more (triangulation, azimuth, basic trig and geometry principals), but to work in the Acura, it doesn't use the clock in the car, but a much more accurate atomic clock (Coordinated Universal Time, transmitted from about 3 or 4 different locations around the world, there is one in Denver). That's why the nav function still worked even when the clock in the Acura was lost in space. The accuracy of this clock allows for very precise location fixing, down to 2 or 3 feet for military and aviation, 10 feet or so for cars and trucks.

9/18 Called my dealer today for an update on my Nav clock issue since he's had my RL since 9/15. He had to call Acura CS (they did not call him as we were told), and my Nav system trunk unit is being shipped to Acura for repair. I was told the unit's hard drive was corrupted by the fix disk. I should have the car back by the end of January. I will keep you guys informed.

Are you having a low blood sugar moment? Drink some Orange Juice fast! I'm assuming he hasn't had your car since September. Today is 1/18, not 9/18. Sorry to hear about that trouble. Honestly, I'm not sure I'd trust the dealership to diagnose a DVD problem, but that's just me. The dealers have been no help in fixing this problem so they're probably just doing what they think needs to be done even if it's wrong. Hope you get it straightened out!

Kristy, you're right about dealers and electronics but I'm hoping my unit will end up on some Alpine workbench and return to me with a new hard drive, latest Nav disk, AND a clock that keeps time. Acura and Alpine navigation systems- Thank you for addressing and fixing this issue. The DVD fix worked perfectly for my 2003 Acura TL-S and I am really thankful you stand behind your product even though it's fifteen years old. It's little things like this that are the difference between good and great companies and I will remember this the next time I purchase a vehicle and stereo/navigation system.

Is there a general consensus out there for how to interpret the instructions for using the fixit disc? When you reach Step 10, "Turn ACC off and wait for 1 Minute" does that really mean to turn the ignition off, since it is still running from Step 1? I now have the fixit discs for both of my cars, and I'm ready to make the leap of faith.

What troubles me about Acura is that I created a case number and their customer service person took my contact info and stated that they would contact me when a fix was found. I never heard back from them. I know I should call them again but I was hoping my faith in Acura would prove me right.

DC8LV, Looking back at prior post, both Kristy and LIver had success when they left the engine running, then turning it off. In other words, "Turn the ACC off and wait for 1 minute" means turning the engine off and wait at least a minute. For "D" I would call Acura tomorrow.

So the story continues, I received my Update disc (2.12.10) which is meant for for my 2002 TL Type S, software version 02.11.38. Followed the instructions and now I have the black screen of death! I was able to get the screen to show once or twice by doing what one of the other people on this chat instructed ( quickly turn the car on) and the screen showed bad disc has been inserted. Funny thing is that the clock was working but could not access any other features on the setup screen. Now I just have the black screen, I should have left it alone and just bought a separate clock! Not sure what Acura is going to tell me when I call on Monday, the system was working fine before I inserted the update disc!

Frmuniz, I assume you have removed the fix disk an reinserted your nav disk. One thing I did learn during my time trial was patience. The Acura computer in the car is very slow. Just tell Acura what is happening and they should be able to help you. You might have to wait a while for another fix disk to be sent. So now you know what time it is, but you don't know where you are going.

OK. It works! (Almost) I have a 2001 CL Type-S running 2.11C software. The fix disk installed per the instructions without problems.when I restarted after the one minute wait it booted up normally. The time was off by an hour but I was able to change that through the setup screen. Because of the reports of the need to wait 20+ seconds I tried shutdown and immediate restart - got blank screen. Waited 1 minute and it works normally. This will be a minor problem for me because I get occasional read errors on the DVD at startup when it's cold. Shutdown and immediate restart after warmup fixed it in the past. Waiting 1 minute to restart car will be painful. But the clock is so worth it! I've been driving myself crazy looking at 0:00 every few minutes!

Just to chime in again here with some thoughts. First off SP365 (me) is not of the female persuasion. Sorry to blow that gender theory :-) . 2nd, I saw that Kristy had a failure on her first attempt with having the ignition in the ACC position. But then when she started the car on the second attempt, all went well. I have noticed that if I'm sitting in my car with the ignition in ACC position listening to the radio, and nav screen is running in some mode, that it will first notify you that it is shutting down to conserve battery. For me this happens after about 5 minutes. So is this the problem some are having when in the ACC position and the process stops about half way thru? Just a thought.

SP365, mine has always worked the same as yours (when on ACC, nav will shut down after about 5 minutes to conserve battery). I have done the first of my 2 "fixes", this one for the 03 Odyssey, and it went flawlessly. Here are some of the things I did that might have helped. I parked the vehicle outside so it could pick up the satellite signals. I then started it and let the nav boot up all the way thru the legal disclaimer (pushed OK). Then I went to the menu and displayed the map. Next, I removed the nav disk, inserted the fix disk, and went through the steps the rest of the way, leaving the engine running. Then, when I reached the step saying to shut off ACC (it was still running at this point), I shut it off. I waited for about a minute and 10 seconds and started it back up. From that point, everything, including the clock, has worked just fine. I did have to reset the time, but that was all. Next week I will try the same process on my 01 MDX.

I finally got my patch DVD for my 2002 MDX Touring, to patch my black 2.A0 DVD. It did not work; nothing happened except a black window with the patch DVD. I called Acura Support, explained everything I did, and they are sending me a new patch DVD. Lot's of luck ....

Guru5QQJR, Keep the faith! Same thing happened to me (same black nav disk as yours), but Acura did send me a replacement and it worked like a champ. And just to clarify, the step 10 that tells you to turn off the ACC means shut off the car totally, then wait the eternal minute, then restart the car.

2001 CL type S got the fix disc for the clock and everything worked fine for a month. Now twice in the last week my Navigation doesnt boot up and I get the black screen. The problem is solved by removing the nav disc and reinserting it but this is a time consuming pain. Called Acura and they said take it to a dealer. I explained to them that my Navigation was working fine until the clock debacle, and their fix, and they said I am out of warranty. I agree that they have gone above their obligation, but as others have pointed out, they caused this issue to begin with. The fix is worse than the problem. I also told them that if I am having this problem, others will too, and I see from previous posts others are getting the black screen

I've had the 0:00 clock issue on my 2002 RL since October when I got back to FL from a summer in MI.

poolboy59--if you haven't read some of the older posts, you might want to make sure your system isn't doing what mine does. Mine shows a blank screen when its had power, then no power then power again-----in other words if you slowly go from putting your key in the ignition to moving slowly past the ACC position (which could give it a blip of power) to cranking and starting the car---the screen will end up blank because you may have turned the key too slowly-----for whatever reason it seems that once the system shuts down it needs about 20 seconds to reboot----a good test would be just see if it works in the ACC position---if it does --turn it back off then back on a couple of seconds later--if it acts like mine a blank screen is all you'll get-----if you wait 20 seconds before going to the ACC position again, it seems happier------I don't have to turn my switch extremely fast to get it to work--just can't hesitate in between off position and start position

Even though I have an open case number with Acura and I need to call to get the disc, now after reading all of these issues, I may wait until I know the fix disc works for real. The other interesting point is turning the key quickly from Off to Start. After having an issue with my fuel pump relay, the dealer technician told me to always turn the key one stop past ACC until I hear the pump relay stop running and all the dash lights go off, then start the engine. I guess this pump relay suggestion just went out the window:(

my issue may be isolated to the version that I am using for my 03 RL (VERSION 2.70A) There may be some out there that don't even realize that their's does it also,( if they have never tried to shut off their car and restart it right away). ---it would be interesting to find out who is effected and who isn't

Did you start with the car outside and running, the navi system fulling booted-up, and the map of where you located showing on the screen before you ejected the navi disc? I don't know if that helps, but that's the way I did it and all went very smoothly. Good luck.

Something similar happened to me. The conclusion was the fix disk was defective. Acura sent me another disk which worked as advertised. I did have the nav mode on (in other words I could see my position on the screen, but I wasn't outside). Mine is a 2003 TL.

Ptatohed: Now you have me worried! I also have a 2.12.80 disk that is for my 2001 MDX, but I have not tried it yet. The patch disk I used in my Odyssey was a different one, and it worked just fine. My MDX is in Texas, where I am headed this coming Tuesday. I will try the "fix" using the 2.12.80 disk (with fingers crossed) on Wednesday and will let you know what happens. I may even drive down to the local Acura dealer and see if I can get someone to watch as I try it.

ptatohed, I would say the odds of getting two faulty fix disks would be very small. If the "applies to" verbiage on the disk includes your nav version, then it should work. I'm sure you have verified the nav versions in your cars, so I assume they sent you the right disks. What really is stumping me is the seemingly hit and miss nature of these fix disks. I got the version 2.A0 which worked fine using the second disk they sent me. I have no other suggestions. Sorry.

Liver, I couldn't agree more. Don't understand the inconsistency we're experiencing. I'm in a totally different situation in that Acura authorized my dealer to send my Nav system to Alpine to refurbish the hard drive. Should get it back this coming week and will let everyone know. (I had the black screen after running the fix. v2.60 on 2002 RL)

I'm sure you tried using her disk in your car. This possibly means there is some malfunction in your car's computer or disk drive. I have a 2003 TL using the same fix disk you have (Ver 2.A0), and it worked.

Well it's been 3 weeks today since I left my RL at the dealer and I have nothing to report. I've left several messages and did actually speak to the service mgr. with whom I left to car. While he recalled my issue, he said he needed to call me back after some research. That was Friday 2/2 and didn't hear back. I left another message this morning stating I really needed a status report. He didn't return my call. Tomorrow I pay a visit.

GuruZGCLT, I'm not sure why you took your car to the dealer. The dealer would fix the problem free if there was a factory service bulletin issued, but that hasn't been done. I think you may end up paying for their labor. The reason they don't return your call is that they have no clue about this problem. If it was up to the dealer they would charge you $1500 for anew Nav system and still the problem would not be solved. On another note, I called Acura last week with my case # and I will receive my disc in about 5 weeks. Hopefully they send me a disc that works.

Some have asked why I took the RL to a dealer. Good question, especially with the response others had. Short story is I received a call from Acura Client Relations (Albert) telling me he would contact the dealer with instructions on how handle the Nav. problem. This he did along with telling the dealer it would be a no cost to me fix. I just followed the plan, and all seemed will when I dropped the car off. Now no response, so I am concerned.

Black screen again this morning. I think what ever they wrote in the program to fix the clock, randomly turns off the entire nav system. I will have to take the disc out to reboot the system again.

Dressed in my old but official "Department of Justice" sweatshirt, I paid a visit to my Acura dealer. Rodney the service mgr. was apologetic for not returning my calls, but double checked his system to confirm my new or refurbished Nav trunk unit will be delivered tomorrow and my RL will be ready Thursday. He confirmed no cost to me and full documentation of correspondence with Acura USA. He volunteered I'd also have the lasted DVD version. (Several times I did catch him reading my DOJ logo....I swear that thing works wonders). I'll update with the latest news. Again, '02 RL v. 2.60, black screen since about 1/4.

Well, I have a 2001 Acura MDX. The Nav disk is marked BM510AO and Ver.2.11.C. The fix disc received includes 2.11.C. The first try it didn't do anything, the second it started and the progress bar advanced two bars, then gave "check disc" message. Reloading the nav disk starts the system, software downloads, progress bar completes and system restarts with 000. Called Acura and they sent another disc, looks like the first. Now when the update tries to download it only progress one bar. I'm going to call them back again, but I think they are going to tell me to take it to a dealer.

Just a follow-up; installed the update CD no luck black screen most of the time and depending on how fast I turn the car on I will get a screen stating CD cannot be read. I called Acura CS and they got me in touch with a regional manager that got in touch with a local dealer to bring in my car. They are going to remove the Navigation system and send out to Alpine for repairs at no charge to me. More to come.

Frmuniz, that's exactly what happened to me and I hope you have more success than I did. On 1/15 I took my RL to the dealer per instructions for Acura CS, was told it would take about 1 1/2 weeks, went to pick it up on 2/8 after dealer called to say if was fixed. It was NOT. I get the Navi screen and correct clock time when key is turned to ACC, but once I start the engine the black screen shows. Exactly like before. Dealer told my Alpine noted "no problem" and that I would get the most recent DVD available. Of course there is a problem and maybe more revealing is I have the same v. 2.60 disk. Someone lied. I refused to take possession of my car. My saga continues.

For those of you taking your car to Acura for repair (black screen of death), are you getting a loaner car as well? (Not a big deal if it's a couple of days, but it sounds like it's a week+) I'm experiencing the same issue and am waiting for Acura support to get back to me.

Quick update. Talked to Acura support and they are arranging to have my local district manager contact me to arrange for the car to be dropped off at the dealer. I was told they will need to remove the Nav and send it to Alpine to diagnose/repair.

Acura told me they shipped my disk on Dec. 27 and should have it in 4-6 weeks ( not sure where it's shipped from) never received it. Call yesterday 2-8-18 said they would ship another, but it will take another 4-6 weeks. Crazy!! I want my clock back. LA

I received my second "fix" disc for 2.70, 207A since the first attempts (20+ on Jan 3) resulted in two yellow bar errors "incorrect DVD disc" and "unformatted" - only once did I receive the download screen and it immediately went to "Please check your disc" no download bar progress. I reported my experience to Acura Client Relations and we agreed that perhaps the first disc was defective, so I got put in queue for another. Two days ago, same disc arrives and I tried today (5 times) - no luck - same two yellow errors as before - never got the download screen to display. Called into Acura Client Relations, provided details, including sending an e-mail with all details, history, pics, etc. requesting my issue be escalated to an engineer. I am awaiting a return call from a case manager. The additional oddity is that I received yet another "fix" disc yesterday for 2.40 which I know does not apply to me and the Client Relations rep confirmed for me. I will report back when I hear back from someone from Acura, e.g., case manager, engineer, other....

GuruZGCLT Here are you located at? I'm in the San Francisco Bay Area. The person I spoke to on the phone even mentioned that depending on the dealership I'd utilize, the district manager could/would be different. So they were specific asking me which dealer I wanted to go to.

GuruDBX6S: Check with Acura on the mailing address they are using. My 2 disks were sent to an address we moved away from in 2002. Thank goodness the person that bought the home knew how to contact me and send the disks on to the correct address.

I called Jan. 5 to follow up on my open case. They gathered my info (software # etc) and said they'd send the appropriate disc. It arrived a couple weeks later, I followed the instructions and everything worked fine. Haven't had any problems since. 2002 TL-S.

Which "fix" disk was it they sent you, and what version Navi disk are you using? It seems some are having trouble with certain disk combinations.

I thinking it might be helpful to Acura/Alpine if we had a summary of results from those who've run a fix dick. I'm also simply curious to see if there is a pattern of some sort. I could look back at our posts, but with over 400 I'm not all that curious :) I'll report I ran the fix disk on Navi v. 2.60 resulting in the black screen. Anyone else want to contribute, and/or have a better idea?

I'm still waiting for a fix disc. If Acura is having some Nav systems sent to Alpine, this tells me that either the fix disc route is NG or Acura is clueless. On another issue, I wish this CarGuru site would give me an option to jump to the last post instead of scrolling. It's just a minor inconvenience on my cell phone.

My successful 2002 TL-S fix: I had Software Version 2.1.38, and Nav Disc version Ver.2.90. The fix disc says "2.12.80 Applies to 2.80, 2.90, 2.A0".

I am going to make my first attempt with the 2.90 disk in my 01 MDX this week. Just for "insurance", I am going to do it with an Acura technician watching. if something goes wrong, at least I will have them to report that my system was working beforehand, and that I followed the instructions correctly.

I’m not sure sending ‘just’ the navigation screen to Alpine will solve the blank screen problem. Over the years I have replaced two navigation screens in my 01 MDX. The first screen I bought over the internet from a parts reseller. A few years later that screen became faded so I sent it to Alpine along with the $230+/- they require. Alpine just swapped out that old screen and sent me a refurbished screen. In both cases – the screen from the internet parts reseller and the (new to me) refurbished screen from Alpine when installed had the same information that the old screens I had replaced…map destinations, etc. ….all info was identical to the screens I replaced. I believe the information and data is stored in the DVD Navigation unit (in my case under the front seat) not the screen. It’s much like a desktop computer…you have a separate screen and a separate computer console where you insert the disk and store your programs and data, etc. If you change the computer screen and any new screen still shows whatever you have in your computer module. I believe the DVD Navigation Module under the seat (or trunk or wherever) is where the DVD fix it disk is sending the fix it program update…not to the Navigation screen.

My dealer sent only the Navi system unit taken from the trunk of my RL. My apologies if I failed to make that clear in any of my prior posts.

D, very good question. I was told by Acura CS and my dealer that my Navi system (the one in the trunk) would be sent to Alpine. The dealer had my car for over 3 weeks, was told the system was back from Alpine who noted "no problem". Dealer also told me I would be receiving the latest DVD version in this process. The dealer told me my system was fixed, but when I picked it up it behaved exactly the same as before. Exactly, and I didn't have an updated disk version. Could be that all this was a lie, and my system never went to Alpine. And my fix disc was also a waste of time. Whatever, I need to retrieve a camera I left in the trunk and will have another conversation with the dealer. I'll be wearing my "Department of Justice" sweat shirt.

Following up as promised, was contacted by Acura Client Relations (very nice gentleman with a strong customer-focus. Very impressed with his professionalism and take-charge approach). He is engaging my dealership to contact me to schedule a service appt, so that my navi unit (under my passenger seat) will be serviced by Alpine. Reminder, I have received two discs 2.12.70 applies to 2.70 and 2.70a and no success in downloading the update - continued to receive two errors saying "wrong disc" and "unformatted" and only once, with the first disc attempt, was able to get the downloading software screen to display and show no progress, I immediately received a "please check your disc" error...

Sending in the screen will not fix the problem unless the screen is defective.The screen is just a display of the information the GPS computer is sending it. A blank screen means that no information is being sent to the screen. Based on the inputs from this forum, I would say that Acura doesn't really know how to fix the problem, nor does the manufacturer or the GPS system which I think is Alpine. Those of us who have been lucky enough to get a fix that worked seems to be the minority of us, and the rest are all hit and miss. If the problem had really been nailed down, everybody would have a working clock. Seems like the problem is the 3 or 4 differences in the systems Acura installed in the various models. When I see a post that says the system manufacturer sent the unit back as no problem detected, they really don't know what the problem is. To them, the system tests fine in their lab, so no problem. What Acura needs is a project manager to oversee this so that fix attempts can be tracked and failures eliminated until the real fix is found. Without that, its like throwing darts at a board in the dark, hoping one will hit. The Customer Relations people are just the answering machine. We need a IT engineer working on this problem.

First, I have an Acura 2002 RL-S with 150K miles on it. I've had it since it was almost new. It too has developed a non-functioning clock. It is my third Acura. My ownership plan always is to drive until little things start to to fail and nickel and dimeing me to death -- and before something major or annoying might happen to render the carcass virtually worthless from a spare-parts, repair cost or loss of trade-in value to make ownership unprofitable. In my case, the car is running very well and a few annoyances have come up, but about six months ago, one my oxygen sensors went south and kept the service light on constantly. I had it fixed, but it required taking the top half of the engine out to reach the faulty units.... Hundreds of dollars. And now this clock doesn't work. And none of you fellers seem to be able to get it fixed nor can a deluge of parallel complaints interested the supplier -- or the manufacturer -- sufficiently to spend much of their time or resources on caring about what you think. In my case, the car runs well except for the clock. The time for me has come to move on while I still have some tolerable equity to work with. I probably will get another Acura, it has been a good ol' car, but I'd like to part company as friends. Good luck to you all. GuruD2P31!

I have to chuckle a little. I happen to have a 2003 TL with about the same kind of mileage as yours, a little less. I have owned the car since new, and I religiously take it to the dealer I bought it from for factory service, so they know me well. My philosophy on car ownership is like yours. I have been very fortunate to have had no major repairs needed for the car. It's a great car, so great that I have postponed buying another each year for the last 5 or 6 years, waiting for the "major" repair that hasen't happened. If Acura relied on people like us to generate their sales, they would have been out of business years ago. Unlike you, I think Acura is making an honest, if albeit unfruitful, attempt to correct this problem, and has done much more than most other manufacturers would even think about. I will honor Acura's efforts by purchasing another when the time comes. I certainly got my money's worth out of this one. By the way, the fix on the clock worked on my car using the second "fix" disk they sent me.

I second Liver's comments. My 01 MDX and 03 Odyssey are both low mileage and going strong. I have found a couple of good independent shops that I trust with both cars, and I may even be willing to absorb some "major" repairs to keep them going as long as they continue to remain reliable overall. Finally, I think Acura is working the problem with the intention of fixing it, sooner or later, for all who contact them.

I'm still waiting on my second disc. I agree with Liver. I think this caught Acura completely off guard. They don't have to go through this aggrevation for cars that are 15+ yrs. old. The good news is that although, I was getting the error message, when I took my disc out of the dvd drive (located in the trunk of my 2000 TL), I would get the no disc message, then it would go to my clock, which I was able to fix. I had gotten most of the way through the process. Everything seems to function fine, except for the Navi. Today, I don't need the navi with Waze, Google Maps and other apps out there. Has anyone tried that option - install the fix, keep the old disc out of the player and see if your clock returns and the ability to reset it? Maybe, after that, you can put the disc back in?

Rob, if keeping the disc out works for me too then you've solved my problem. My fix disc allowed me to correct my clock time, but I get a black screen when I start the car. I also use Waze as my navi these days really all I need is the clock!!! Thanks.

Taking my 2002 TL Type S into the dealer on Friday, since the first disk locked the screen up. They will removing the Nav from the trunk and sending it out to CA (Alpine) for repairs. I will follow-up.

Rob, I use Google Maps and Waze but two issues: Their response as to where to turn or to which exit to take is too slow, and often give me the wrong directions. I've nicknamed Waze "Wrong Waze". And to a minor issue, nothing beats looking at a large 8" screen vs a tiny iPhone screen. Sorry, I yearn for my 'ol clock/GPS on the same screen.

Report: 2003 TL Type S, Update disk 2.12.40 Applies to 2.40. 1) Received two weeks ago, 2) Update applied and installed 1st try, 3) clock immediately available, 4) comment: initially the Nav system would not load (black screen) if I turned the car on after a very short duration of turning it off. 20 minutes later, no problems. Over the last two weeks the time that I had to wait has reduced until yesterday. As of yesterday the Nav system loads immediately with no problems every time.

Okay, setup an appointment with the dealer here to take a look at my navi. Not quite sure what they'll do since it sounds like they'll remove the unit and send it to Alpine. Hopefully they figure out what the problem is. I've been "good willed" 1-hour of service for them to look into this issue. I thought not having a clock was a pain, but not having the ability to control your HVAC is the real pain! Specially on cold mornings! (The navi, I'm "meh" with since I use my phone for that now.) For those of you who say "Acura is going above and beyond," I say BS on that. They broke everyone's clocks at exactly the same time. This is a defect due to insufficient programming/foresight for the Navi system. It's not a "wear/tear" item. Someone simply dropped the ball when programming the system. For them to blame the satellites is ludicrous. There is nothing to program on the satellites as they're all owned by the US Govt. Neither Alpine nor Acura/Honda has the ability to program or request changes to the satellites. The way they've handled this clock/blank screen problem is laughable. It sounds like they have no clue what's going on and are simply just taking stabs in the dark to figure this out. My '03 TLS has over 215k now. For the most part, it's been reliable (on my 2nd transmission though). The build quality of some of the items leaves little to be desired. Would I buy another Acura? Doubtful (based on build quality and crappy transmission). If I was to consider a reliable car next, I'd look into Toyota/Lexus.

I wish you success with your dealer and hope you let us know. My dealer has had my '02 RL for a month and now they are grabbing at straws. Yesterday the service mgr. said his technician thought the black screen might be an ignition issue. I told him to please let his technician know that at least half of those on two Acura forums I follow couldn't all be having ignition problems at the same time. Not sure he heard me. The only good news for me is the dealer diagnosed my SRS light on as seat belt problem and is fixing that for free.

The problem you have had is the reason I took my car to the Plano, TX Acura dealer before I even tried the "fix" disk. The Service Manager sat in the driver's seat and read the directions while I swapped out the disks. However, before we started through the process, I showed him the navi system was functioning properly (except for the clock). Then, I removed the navi disk (which gives an error message on the display) and then reinserted it and showed that it booted up again and navigated normally after having been removed and reinstalled. Then we started through the steps for the "fix disk". He read the steps, handed me the disk to insert, and it all went flawlessly. In fact, it went better than I expected, because it booted up and started navigating normally after we did the "fix disk" and reinserted the navi disk. We did not have to turn the ignition off and restart. The clock was off by 2 hours, so I simply reset it to the correct time, and we were done. It has worked fine every since then. The Service Manager also appreciated learning about the problem. The only "gripe" I have is that it appears Acura and Honda have not informed any of their service departments about the problem. I have told 1 Acura dealership and 3 Honda dealerships about the problem, and in each case it was news to them. Bottom line advice: If you have not tried to use the "fix disk" yet, do it in front of a service department technician - preferably the Service Manager. Start it navigating (Map displayed), remove the navi disk, reinsert it, and show it still navigates before you try the fix disk. That way, you have a witness that the disk reader and navi disk worked before the "fix disk" was every tried.

I would recommend you print out several pages of this blog and take those, together with your "fix disk", to the local Acura dealer so they can see that you are not the only one having the "no navi" problem after using the disk. You need to convince them that there is a bigger problem with the disk combinations and software, not with the hardware. If you can get them to also call the Acura number we have all been using, that would help get them on your side as an advocate.

Sorry for the long post……………A few weeks ago I posted that I installed the 0.00 clock correction disk (2001 MDX) which worked but had a black screen of death. After some trial and error I discovered that if I started the car by slowly starting the ignition the black screen appeared. The solution was to turn the key very quickly and no blank screen and all was fine. A second problem I encountered was that if I turned the car off and restarted the car within a minute or two (for whatever reason) the screen was blank. The solution here was to wait say two-three minutes and restart the car and all was fine. Now new issues have developed over the past couple of weeks. (1) When driving the car one day the Navi screen went to a light grey with thin vertical black lines (no map and no clock showing). After a minute or two the screen went to the black screen of death. The screen stayed black for several hours and stopping and starting the car did nothing. Finally later in the day upon starting the car the map and clock reappeared and worked perfectly. (2) The next day the screen froze...that is the curser representing the car froze on the screen and did not show any movement when driving. Also the clock stopped and froze the exact instant the navi screen froze. Stopping and restarting the car only produced a new frozen screen (at the newer location) and the clock again froze at the instant the screen froze. A few hours later after stopping for Starbucks and restarting the car the map and clock reappeared and functioned perfectly. Over the next few days driving around town no problems existed. (3) Then another problem developed. The location curser was way off its location and jumping around – sometimes even going in the wrong direction. Again stopping and starting the car did nothing over the rest of the day. At some point after stopping and starting the map worked fine. (4) It should add that when numbers 2 and 3 were happening the Setup function on the Navi screen did not work and all the side buttons (Menu, Map, AC/Trip, Cancel and Zoom also did not function at all so I could make no adjustments or even scroll thru any other part of the screen). (5) Over the past 9-10 days or so the screen freezing and/or the location problem have happened 2-3 times each. They randomly start and at some point go back to normal when restarting the car at a later time. I will call Acura (not the dealer) and see what they say but am wondering what others out there might say. Is this the 0.00 correction disk related or something else like a bad DVD Drive unit under the passenger seat? The map DVD disk is clean and no scratches, etc. I will also call Alpine. A few years ago I had a Navi screen going bad and the dealer said they would sell me a new one for $2K plus removal and installation (that’s why I avoid the dealer). I knew Alpine repaired the screen for something like a $250? fee. I called Alpine and actually talked to a technician who said the screen was repairable so I removed the screen – about a 15 minute job - drove it over (I live in LA) and a few days later I received by Fed Ex what turned out to be a recently refurbished Navi screen – different serial number). If needed I will take out the front passenger seat and take out the DVD Drive unit and take to Alpine based on what the might say.

Wow!! Gremlins for sure! Given all the different problems, I would be suspicious there is a hardware problem somewhere. You didn't say if the other functions, like the "AC-TRIP" button still functions and displays properly when the navi display does not. The "fix disk" in my 2001 MDX worked just fine, and my system has worked without a hitch since then. Do you know anyone who would lend their navi disk to you to see if it has the same problem? That could provide some additional clues perhaps.

Everything worked fine for a period of time until the grey screen that then went to black. Note; my post did say none of the function buttons (AC, Menu, etc) and the on screen touch Setup don’t work when the gremlins make the screen freeze or lose location. And really don’t know anyone with a Navidisk but a good thought. Probably will end up calling Acura and/or Alpine. Probably the underseat DVD Drive is faulty. Very frustrating. Thanks.

Ordered CD, arrived in less then a week, followed instructions, and the fix worked like a charm! No more 00:00. Thank you Acura for taking care of the older cars that most other manufacturers ignore.

Mike, this gives me hope that my disc will work...when my disc will ever show up. I called Acura several weeks ago and I still haven’t received a disc. Time to call again.

When you call them back, make sure they are using your current mailing address. When they sent me the discs for my 2 cars, they used an address we left in 2002.

i have a 02 TL with the same clock problems as everyone else, i dealt with it, they sent me a fix disk. I followed the directions. After doing step 9, I had a clock. I executed step 10, "Turn ACC off and wait for 1 minute". I started the vehicle and waited for the unit to operate as normal. In the instructions it states that the navigation function may take a few minutes to load and functioning normally. After 30 minutes of waiting, nothing except a blank screen. Now no nav, No HVAC control. A total black screen. I will be calling Acura on Monday.

I have 2000 TL followed the instruction, got my clock back but 2 hours ahead of our time in MN. The nav screen is black, the A/C control works but no navigation maps. Called Acura they said the would send a new disk, not sure what that will do, or will call me and send me to a dealer. No disk and no word, will call them again on Monday. Keep us posted on your out come.

You are not alone. I suspect Acura will have heard from enough people of this problem (no navi) to be addressing it. My two cars both work normally now. In fact, on my 01 MDX, the navi started up with the clock right after reinserting the navi disk.

I have come full circle and it's not been smooth; I am now done. 2002 Acura MDX. I rec'd 2 same "fix" discs (for 2.70 and 2.70A) which did not work at all - continued to receive the wrong disc and unformatted error message. My Navi worked and continues to work. Clock does not, still at 0:00. Acura Client Relations rep from CA called me and said he was arranging for me to take my vehicle in to local dealership, to have under seat DVD navi taken out and sent back to Alpine for fixing all on Acura's dime. Long story short, the rep thought I had the black screen (I did not and never said I did) and nothing got fixed. I am part of the "group" who has an ongoing software issue. This was all a few weeks ago. He told me that he did not know when I would hear back from anyone from Acura as I was only his radar because he thought I had a black screen. I have spent too much of my time calling in, following up when the discs where not sent timely, trying to get the discs to load, taking my vehicle into the dealership, being told one thing and then another occurs, etc. Yes, amazingly aggravating to still not have my clock; but, my navi works as does the remainder of my MDX. I am not confident that a fix will come and I've put all the time into this that I care to. Good luck to everyone who has still yet to try fixing their clock! I do wish I was one of the success stories.

Finally! I have been through most of the issues everyone has stated. The CD did not work (black screen) spoke with customer service and they had a service manager call me. The service manager connected me with my local Acura dealer. Everything was setup, they removed my Navigation system from the trunk and sent it to CA. Just got it installed yesterday, everything is back to normal. Although I had to put up with some craziness the fact that Acura stood behind their product was and is a well appreciated feeling. I have a 2002 TL Type S, that will now be handed down to my son. Thank you Acura!!

Frmuniz, that's great news for me because I've had the same experience. My navi unit and screen was sent to Alpine this past Monday, 3/12. My dealer has had my 2002 RL for more than 6 weeks, can you believe that? I am interested in you're time line. I installed my "fix disc" the first week in Jan, black screen, Acura CS told my to take it to dealer who sent my DVD unit to Alpine (or so they said) in late Jan. Same black screen but was told Acura/Alpine is committed to fixing.

I picked up my 2002 RL from the dealer today and the Nav and clock finally work. The only issue is the unit came back with v 2.12.2 which I believe was the original version. I had upgraded to v 2.60 and have no idea why they gave me an older version. My dealer did send the entire unit, screen and all, to Alpine in California for the repair. So now my only question is whether or not v 2.60 will work anymore or should I just mark this experience up as "that's life"?

I am amazed the Acura picked up the cost to remove and re-install my nav unit, get the clock function fixed on my 2001 MDX, of which I am at least the second owner. A "warranty" repair on an 18 year old car? As I told the customer service rep who called me a week after the repair was done to check my satisfaction: sure makes me likely to buy another Acura.

I don't view this as being a "warranty" repair at all, but rather Honda/Acura stepping up and taking responsibility for fixing a problem caused by their error when the satellite software was uploaded. I give them credit for persisting in solving the problem and demonstrating how much customer loyalty matters to them. I still wonder why they did not send out letters to all customers who have these systems to let them know there is a fix. I suspect there are many out there who simply don't know the problem with their clocks can be fixed.

I wish I had a positive opinion about Acura but after calling them a few times, and them promising a disc, I’ve seen nothing. Time to call again...and again...and again:(

I don't think Acura has done a good job of "stepping up" at all. This isn't a wear/tear item, but rather a major blunder on their part. Evidence is that everyone's clock broke at the same time. I expect Acura to step up to resolve this issue. Also, neither Acura or Alpine has the power/ability to program the GPS satellites. Those are owned by the US Govt. So them blaming some reprogramming is BS. Sure, the govt may have updated some software, but that means Acura/Alpine did not program their product within spec. If the govt went "out of spec," then this issue would effect multiple GPS navigation vendors. Going back to my own issue. I have the random "blank screen" issue. I've had an appointment with my local dealer to take a look at the issue, but apparently there is no contact between them and Acura Customer Service. So it was a waste of my time. And frankly, based on my conversation with the dealer, it doesn't sound like they really know what's going on either. So I may wait a bit for them to figure out the exact fix vs. letting them "i think it's this" type of repair.

Updates to the GPS satellite constellation are done routinely by the Air Force. For GPS receivers to work properly, including the nav units in our vehicles, their software needs to be compatible with the software specifications published by the Government. it is not unusual for some GPS devices to fail to work properly after a software update has been done by the AF, but it is usually caused by the device manufacturer failing to design their software such that it compliant with the Government requirements. An example of what can happen in these cases is detailed in the brief GPS.gov memo found in the link below, describing just such a problem that arose after a GPS software update done on 21 Sep 2017. Most likely, the "fix discs" provided by Acura were updates to the firmware in our nav units that resolved one or more incompatibilities between the Alpine software and the GPS satellite software. Today, 5/12/18 I received my disc. First, my GPS software is VERS 2.11.28. My fix-it disc is 2.12.10, which applies to several GPS software versions. I followed directions and after re-inserting my original GPS disc and restarting my car, I got the Black Screen of Death. Nothing. I gave up. BUT, my son drove my car 2hrs to Santa Barbara and when he got back, TA-DA!!!! I have my clock back. Everything works!!! I’m keeping my fingers crossed the fix is permanent.

Well...I jumped to conclusions. My GPS has a weird glitch. After getting my GPS/Clock to work yesterday, this morning after starting the car...nothing. BUT...if I turn off the car and let it sit off for a minute, then turn the key to the ACC position (where I can use the radio), my GPS and clock works. BUT here’s the glitch: Once the screen works, and I turn on the ignition to start the car, everything goes black. Next step, I’m calling Acura to report this.

you may have the same glitch that I have. Once the unit is on then is turned off it can't be restarted for almost 20 seconds (reboot time I guess)----To see if you fall into this category try turning the key to the ACC position which should turn it on, then turn the key to the off position. Then without waiting for 20 seconds try turning the key back to ACC . I'll bet it doesn't work---but if you wait 20 or more seconds it will. If all this is happening with your system then it means you need to be aware that you need to turn your key quickly from off to start with little delay. If you have too much delay the system will blink on (like your radio would do) then go back out while you crank the engine. This causes your system to reboot?? and you'll have a blank screen---I've dealt with this since January and have sort of got used to this issue---a lot of the time I catch myself pushing my key inward while I turn it which causes it to hang up just before the cranking position (worn ignition switch)--hence no screen when this happens-----Hope this info helps you deal with your issue.

I called Acura this Monday morning and gave details about my system going to black screen once I fully start the car. After a few moments on hold I was told that they have a follow up procedure to “fix” the problem. My case was forwarded to a Case Manager who will contact me with my next step. I sense this will involve a dealer visit. Just to recap, my Fix Disc only allowed full GPS/Clock function when the key was in ACC or ON position, but as soon as I started the car everything went black. So the Fix Disc actually made the problem worse.

Actually, to say you have to start it "very quickly" may be a bit misleading. You just can't have any hesitation between off and start. If you were sitting in a parking lot listening to the radio on the ACC position and then decided to start the car , you would have to turn the key to the OFF position ,then wait about 20 sec. then start the car( that example is my biggest issue with this glitch which doesn't happen that often)-----once the navi unit gets power its ok until the power gets cut then it needs about 20 sec ( 17 to be exact) to reboot for the next session----so when you are turning your key from off to start you don't want have the ACC position or the ON position to cause the navi unit to blink on before your car is cranking (while the car is cranking I think there must be a momentary outage in the supply of power to everything?)--so you don't want the navi seeing any power before cranking---------------just a normal "hesitation free" turn of the key from off to cranking should work---[all of this applies to my glitch --others may have different glitches]

Interesting...This morning on a new cold start and turning the key very quickly, the GOS/Click worked after starting the car, but after turning off the car, then restarting, even after waiting 20+ seconds, no screen. In about 1/2hr I will call Acura who left me a message to call their Case Manager.

Spoke to Acura. Sat in my car while on the phone, and the GPS/Clock did not boot up on a quick start, but did boot if the key was simply put into ACC or ON. Acura scheduled a service appointment at my dealer of choice so my DVD unit can be removed and sent to Alpine. No need to leave my car. I’m curious why the DVD unit needs service since before my update disc was installed my DVD unit worked. Oh well. I know one thing, before I leave the dealer when they reinstall my DVD, I will sit and put my system through a full test.

Dano, you're about to go through the same experience I did. First, my dealer sent the DVD unit to Alpine but that didn't fix the "black screen". Next, they sent to unit and the screen to Alpine and the problem was solved. Total time was 3 months. Yes, you read correctly...3 months, from January to late March or early April. I suggest you ask your dealer if they've dealt with this problem before and what time frame they expect. If you're their first, hopefully you have quicker results than I did.

ZGCLT, since Acura called my dealer to make the appointment, hopefully Acura got them up to speed as what needs to be done. I have my doubts since Acura stated that the “dealer would remove the DVD unit and send it to Alpine.” Based on your feedback I will definitely interrogate the dealer as to their procedure. If they only plan on sending the DVD unit, i won’t have much leverage to have them send the screen too.

I have the same issue. The "blank" screen if you turn off the car and turn it back on (think stopping for a minute or 2) and the screen is blank. Sometimes when it cranks "slow" this happens as well (especially on cold winter mornings). I had an appointment at my local dealer. Acura customer service messed up my appointment timing. Long story short is that when I talked to the dealer, they weren't quite sure what was going on. They were simply going to remove the navi unit and send it to alpine. At that point I was going to just wait and see how they would resolve it before being the first couple of customers trying this. Hopefully they solve your problem on the first try. If they do, I'll re-schedule my appointment to have my navi fixed as well.

It's a really curious problem some of you are having. My two units did just fine with the "fix" discs, and I can't imagine what problem some DVD units have that mine did not have. Hopefully, someone will find out from Alpine or Acura why some units need to go back to Alpine for a fix.

Good advice. If the dealer is hearing about this for the first time, you might suggest they look at this blog for a while to learn about some of the problems and experiences of others.

DC8LV, funny, I’ve had both our Acura’s into the dealer for problems they had no clue about but I was ahead of their knowledge based on my interenet blog search.

When I was ready to use the fix disk on my '01 MDX, I went to the Acura dealer in Plano, TX to get someone to watch (witness) me do it. They had no knowledge of the problem, but I suggested the guys at the service desks simply do a Google search using words like, "Clock on Acura navi system suddenly reads 0:00". A couple of the young guys did that right then, and became very interested in looking into the problem. One of them called the Service Manager, a "senior" guy they called "Pops", and he came out to see what I needed. I explained that I simply wanted someone to watch me do the update, and he immediately said, "Where are you parked? Let's go do it!" He sat in the driver's seat while I sat in the passenger seat. He read the instructions, handed me the disk when called for, and I did the "work". When we finished, it all worked immediately. We chatted for a while about cars and boats, I thanked him for his time, and he thanked me for letting him know about the issue. Great guy. I will go back there for my service needs in the future.

I’ve been following this problem since it began, so its nice to finally have a solution. I appreciate everyones comments, recomendations and advice. My wife’s car is a 2000 Acura TL, and exibited the same clock issue as everyone else “0:00”. I followed the latest recomendations and called Acura at the phone number you guys posted. The customer service rep was very familiar with the issue, the history, and best of all, the solution. He asked a few questions about our car, got my mailing info, said I would get the repair disc in 2 to 3 weeks, and then actually apoligized for the problem, and huge amount of time it took to come up with a solution. I got the disc in less than 2 weeks, ran to my garage, popped the trunk and went to work. I followed the instructions printed on the disc case (same instructions that some of you posted), and in just a few minutes the clock was working. I hope this is the end of this whole mess. I hope that the rest of you have the same result. Kudos to Acura / Honda for not quitting on their customers.

Weycodave, I also agree that it is nice that Honda/Acura has come up with a solution, as hit- and-miss as some people have had with the fixes. My car works if I quickly turn the key and start it, but does not work if I turn the key to the ACC position (to listen to the radio), see the GPS boot up, then see a black screen if I then start the car. To me, this was only half fixed, so Acura was kind enough to send me to a dealer. Question for you: If you turn your key to ACC, let the GPS/Clock boot up, does your system still work if you then start the car?

DanoGuru - I tried to duplicate the problem you described (turn the key to ACC, let the GPC/Clock boot up, listen to the radio, etc., then start the car) and everything worked fine. I tried several intervals of time in the ACC position before starting but the clock & navi work fine. The clock & navi completly start up in the ACC position, then when I start the car the system reboots and goes through the startup cycle. Either way, bothe the clock & navi are working with no issues.

Well my ordeal with having my 2001 TL clock reading 0:00 seems to be over. This started like everyone else in Aug 2017. I had logged a case with Acura in Oct 2017. Then in Jan 2018 I called Acura. A day later I received a call back from Acura and was sent a fix disc within 5 days. As this car is not a daily driver in my fleet, it took me 2 months, late March to have time to apply the fix disc. In applying the fix disc solution I was able to get the clock back, however the nav screen went blank (black). As this car is now a back up car, it was driven minimally and my wife made the comment one day, April 2018, about when will the nav unit be fixed and how can she operate the hvac as the screen is now blue with a yellow information block. I looked at the vehicle and it was displaying the message " DVD Disc reading error. (Incorrect DVD Disc) Please consult your dealer. I call back Acura and leave a VM on the number I had for the person I spoke to in Jan 2018. I receive a call back a day later from a different Acura representative. He is very apologetic for my issue. I share with him the error message. The software level of my nav unit and that I have applied the fix disc. He immediately starts in that he will schedule an appointment for me to my local Acura dealer to have them remove the nav unit to send the unit to Alpine for repair and to re-install the repaired unit at no cost to me. I inform him that I am in for this solution. I take the TL in on May 2 at 745a. When leaving the nav unit, the dealer needed the nav disc that was in the unit and teh fix disc that Acura had set to me. Lucky for me I had brought along the fix disc. By 845a I am out of the dealer with my TL without the nav unit. I called the Acura representative to let them know that the dealer now has my nav unit. I receive a follow up call from the same Acura representative that scheduled my appointment informing me that he has been contacted by the dealer regarding my issue and repair order. The dealer had a local source to repair the nav unit and that it would be about two (2) weeks for the units to be back to the dealer. On May 16, two (2) weeks after leaving the nav unit with the dealer, I received a call from the dealer that my repaired unit was back with the dealer. I made an appointment for May 23 to have the nav unit re-installed. I arrived at 745a today. At 845a the Service Adviser informed me that my TL was ready. While the TL was with them today, they did there 58 point check, potential service work. Nothing needed to be recommended. I got in the TL. Started the TL. The clock and nav unit came to life, only to ask me for the nav unit code. I did not have the owners manual in the TL as it occupies a lot of the glove box space. I went back to the Service Adviser and inquired if he could look up the code for my nav unit. He was able to provide the nav unit. I entered the code and the nav unit started it's initialization process. With an hour drive to work from the dealer, the nav unit worked the entire drive. Of note, when I first arrived at the Acura dealer on May 2, the Service Adviser played the part of he had never heard about the clock or nav units issue. While I was checking the TL in with the Service Adviser the Shop Foreman came to his desk and looked at my Repair Order and made the comment that the word must be out now on the fix. I took this as both the Service Adviser and the technicians are aware of this issue, however they are down playing it to see if you are willing to pay for the repair. In my case I had already been informed by the Acura representative that Acura would be covering the removal, repair and re-installation costs. I am sure that their have been some interesting discussions between Acura and Alpine as to who and how much of a financial hit either company is taking to correct the issue that arose in Aug 2017 with the clock no longing synchronizing through the GPS. I am thankful that in my case, Acura took the high road and kept me a satisfied customer. I do have vehicle buying history with Honda NA since 1976, having purchased five (5) vehicles from Honda NA between 1976 - 2001. And the 2001 TL did see the dealer more than once for the transmission issue that arose for that model year. I also do regular transmission fluid exchanges, along with 100K service intervals with my local dealer (timing belt, water pump, hoses, drive belt, etc). The 2001 TL has 206K on it and it runs as strong as it did new.

The "fix" for my two vehicles went smoothly, and I do appreciate Acura for resolving the problem. However, your experience reinforces my suspicion that Acura is trying to "fly under the radar" with this problem by not being proactive and contacting the owners of all the cars that had these units to let them know about a fix for the problem they have been experiencing since last August. I wonder if for every one of us that have contacted Acura there are ten more owners out there that have not taken any action, or have gotten the "I know nothing about this" response from a service person. The fact that they have responded well for those of us that called Acura about the problem, yet service departments - and I have spoken to 4 of them - are hearing about it for the first time, leads me to believe Acura/Honda is intentionally avoiding letting customers know in order to minimize their costs.

I've been following the feed for about 8 months now. The best thing was to call Acura Client Relations (800-382-2238). While they weren't the best at keeping in touch with me (I had to make the effort), they did provide good support. They sent me a fix CD December 30 and it worked part of the way. I had to take out my nav DVD to get the menu to be available and change the time on the clock. The only issue was that I didn't have the nav available for a few months, until Daylight savings changed in March. My clock has been off an hour and I couldn't fix the clock like I previously did, so I had to call Client Relations a few times asking for a new CD (which was never sent), however, in the beginning of May, they said that I should take the car to a dealer to remove the navi, send it to Alpine to fix and re-install. Finally was able to get to the dealer yesterday to take care of this issue and a few others. Dealer provided a loaner car for two days - no charge. The fact that my car is a 2000 TL with 180K on it, I'm pretty impressed that they honored their car owners (even as a third owner). Will get my car back 6/1 (without the navi), but happy that it is finally being resolved before a summer roadtrip. BTW - Dealer did not state that they were aware of the issue, but my Client Relations contact called the dealer and set up the initial appointment. Don't really care if Acura/Honda is being hush/hush about it. They are taking care of it and if you don't do your own due diligence and follow through then you should have to pay.

I took my CL-S to the dealer a week ago to have my Nav unit sent to Alpine. Not sure why others who did the same had to get a loaner. My dealer only took 1hr to remove my unit. But now I wait a few weeks to get the unit reinstalled (easy...it just plugs in an two bolts hold it). I’ll report back when my system gets back from Alpine.

Son of a b. I typed all of the following last night but it looks like it never posted. :( I think because I was trying to attach a photo and maybe it was too large. Arrgghhh. I'll skip the pic this time. Luckily I saved a copy of what I wrote. Copy and paste: ---------------------------------- Alright Gang, you are listening to (reading?) to the happiest Acura owner ever! Quick brief background on my personal scenario so no one has to go back and read: I have a 2003 TL Type S. My wife has a 2000 TL Premium. Both with nav, both with the 0:00 issue. Earlier this year, we started a case with Acura. They sent is each a correction disk, though they were the same disk so I had two copies. My wife's worked beautifully first try flawlessly and matched the correction disk's instructions perfectly. My '03, not so much. I tried repeatedly with both correction disks and either got nothing or 2/3 of the download bars at best. I spent hours on this. I called Acura back and told them one of my two cars was corrected by the disk but not the other. They said they would send me a new disk. I asked 'Will it be the same disk or a different one?'. She said a different one. It never came. Called back 4 weeks later, guy apologized and sent the disk right away - but it was a third copy of what I already have and hadn't worked for me. Well, this was 2 months ago and I have been so uninspired to try the third disk that I did not until last night. So I do...……….. but same old stuff - either did not work at all or, once, I got partial progress download bars. But, I first tried it in the garage and it gave me absolutely nothing. Moved outside to the driveway and it made a little more progress. So, it got me thinking, maybe I just need clearer reception? My house does seem to be a black hole with radio and cell reception. (Though, remember, my wife's correction disk worked just fine on our driveway). So, I brought the disk to work with me today. After work, I tried the correction disk in a wide open parking lot (albeit with solar canopies above me, but what the heck). Well, IT WORKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It took a loooong time and did not match the instructions as far as time frame but it eventually worked. The download (spelled "down load" on the screen) went through completely. I HAVE MY CLOCK BACK!!!!! :oD It came in at like 2 hours and 4 minutes off but I was able to correct it so I don't care. The clock must be synced with the satellites because after I set the correct hours/minutes, the seconds were dead on with my cell phone and GPS radar detector. So, what was the answer? The 3rd disk? Trying it in a different geographic location? Just trying it for the umpteenth time? Who knows? Anyway, good luck to everyone else who still needs to correct their clock. I am sooooo glad this nightmare is over for me! I am so stoked to finally solve this problem and get my clock back. :o] Again, best of luck to those still battling with this.

Woo Hoo!!! Today, June 19, my dealer (Center Acura of Sherman Oaks) reinstalled my Alpine DVD unit into my ‘02 CL-S after Alpine rebuilt it and everything WORKS!!! Center Acura was very nice and apologetic and they knew of the problem, so I simply waited in their lounge and drank a cup of coffee and ate a bagel while I waited. They washed my car and I feel like my car is new (almost).

well amazingly, I fixed my clock by using the procedure in youtube video O4o5xsjmv0A, in which you insert your original nav dvd, turn the key to position I (not II!), and then hold down MENU-MAP-CANCEL key before you see the globe. Then you get a magic menu that lets you update the software from the satellite. You must be under open sky, not in a garage.

@josh yes, but you have to have your original nav DVD. I had mine buried in the glove-box. Apparently they released a fix to update the software via the satellite link which I didn't know they could do - this fixes it automagically for some customers. Amazing. I had no idea there was a "secret menu"! Thanks Russ. I think I do still have my original disk but the correction disk Acura sent me worked so it wouldn't make sense to try it now. For some reason, my computer audio is not working right now so all I could do was watch the video, not listen to it. But I don't see him ever put back in the later map disk. Do you have to keep the old original map disk in forever? That wouldn't be acceptable to me.

@josh - not sure about updated maps. I know that mine didn't work, but I've had a lot of trouble with the upgrade dvd and it keeps coming up with "unformatted - see your dealer". I have the 2001 CL and I'm trying to get the last update which was published in 2012. At this point, the original dvd seems to be working much more reliably and I love having my clock back! BTW, I verified that you must press the buttons in sequence, starting with MENU, then MAP, then CANCEL. It does not work if you press them all at the same time. Also, you must press after you turn the key to the accessory position (I), so have to be a bit quick about it. I agree if you loaded the code from a CD, then you don't need to download it via the satellite link.

Hi Russ, The last updated map disk for my 2003 TL was 2013 (Acura-supported for 10 years after the end of that generation (2003)). I paid $100 for it so I definitely want it! My original map doesn't even have my 2005 neighborhood but my 2013 map does. So, going back to my original disk is not acceptable to me. This reminds me. I think in Sept 2017, Acura sent out an over-the-air update for the 0:00 clock problem but it only helped those with older/original disks. Those of us with newer/upgraded map disks needed the 'correction disk' which I finally got and finally worked for me and my wife (2000 and 2003 TLs). So, I think the method you describe and you link us to on youtube is simply the 2017 update for older disks. Again, not acceptable to me. I would urge anyone with an updated map disk to continue to pursue a case with Acura and get the update disk sent to you. - Josh

Josh, I agree. The "over-the-air" update you refer to was a software patch sent to the GPS satellites. It was done mid-Oct 2017, as I recall. it did fix the clocks for some of the older units running the old map disks, but did not help the newer ones. I had two cars that were affected - a 2001 MDX and a 2003 Odyssey. The satellite fix did not work for either one, but the fix disks corrected the problem for both units. My recommendation remains for those that have not tried the disk yet, go to a Honda or Acura dealer, and have one of the service people sit in the car and watch you do it. It helps ensure they know you followed the directions, and it educates them on a problem many of them are still not aware of.

I hope so too. I got the update CD 12/2017. However after reading all the problems other were having with the update disk I just held on to the CD until I went in to the dealership for service and included the CD update as part of my service request. They had problems updating it, however, they made a call to Honda and was able to get my clock fixed at no cost to me on the same day. I only had to pay for the other service I requested. In the meantime, I got used to not looking at the clock so I was retrained. However, I am glad to have it back. No longer have the distraction of sneaking a peek at my Fitbit. Also, I enjoy reading the comments on Cargurus. It was helpful to know others were experiencing my tribulation and that’s there was dialogue that expressed my tress and much helpful information. Especially since I had gone to my dealership and the could not help me. Which is one of the reasons I took pleasure in taking the CD to them to fix the problem. Thanks to all out there for you comments and compassion Andy cargurus. Com

The problem started for everyone on Aug 17, 2017 with a GPS satellite programming error. Look back through the thread from fall of 2017 and find the phone number to call at Acura. They will give you a service number. They will want to know the nav software version you are using in your unit so they can send you the correct "fix" disk, as it is called. I strongly recommend that you take the "fix" disk they send to you to the service department of your closest Acura dealer and get them to watch you go through the steps Acura sends with the "fix" disk of removing the nav disk from your unit, installing the "fix" disk, and then reinstalling the original nav disk. Do it outdoors and show the service person that the nav unit is working properly (showing the map) before starting the process. That way, the service person can see that it was working before using the fix disk and that you followed the procedure correctly. If the unit does not come up properly afterwards, with the clock then working, then they were a credible witness. Don't be surprised if the Acura dealer has not even heard of the problem, and don't expect the clock to show the proper time initially, but then go through the process of resetting the time to make sure that also works. This is the process I used at the Acura dealer in Plano TX. In fact, the service manager - a really good guy, but had never heard of the problem before - was the one who volunteered to go out to the car with me. He even read the steps, and handed me the "fix" disk when the instructions called for it. My unit came up just fine and has worked fine ever since then. In fact, I have two of them - an Acura and a Honda. Don't go to Honda. Go to Acura. They know a lot more about it, because nav systems in Hondas that long ago were relatively rare, so they are not seeing many customers come in with the problem. When you are at Acura, suggest they get online and "google" something like, "Clock on 2003 Acura nav system reading 0:00". It will likely be an eye-opener for most of them.

The “fixit” disc solution worked for some Acura owners, but not me. After calling Acura, they sent me a disc. After calling Acura to report that the disc didn’t work, they made an appointment for me at my Acura dealer. The dealer removed my GPS drive and sent it to Alpine for repair. Acura knows about this problem. Call them and they will handle the rest.

Same here, got the disc and it didn't work. Acura sent me to the dealer also. Navigation was sent back to Alpine, took a month to get it back and still having issues. On the phone with Acura now to determine what needs to happen now...Total inconvenience.

Crystal, when I got my GPS unit returned from Alpine and the dealer re-installed it, everything has been working perfectly. At least Acura is trying to help you with this problem as a lot of car companies would say “Oh sorry, 8 years past warranty so nothing we can do, but we are amazed this car hasn’t been sent to the crusher yet.”

I would like to add a comment to DanoGuru's info. First, I commend Acura for correcting the problem when other companies might have just ignored it. It should be remembered, however, that Acura (or someone working for them) caused the malfunction in all of these units which had been working just fine until then. In other words, it's not quite the same as a company essentially saying the units were out of warranty. In this case, they were liable for causing the malfunction, just like they would have been if an Acura dealer broke something on your car while it was there to be serviced. The place where they could have done much better is letting those affected know that the problem we all had was caused by a faulty software update. Who knows how many others are out there that did not find out what happened, because they never came across this blog? Their units still are not working. I talked to 4 or 5 Honda and Acura service departments in Washington and Texas, and none of them had been told anything about the problem. We were the ones that clued them in, thanks to Car Gurus - not Honda or Acura.

DC8LV, the GPS units were made by Alpine, not Acura. Having Acura dealers who are in the middle of Knuckledrag USA know the details of this problem is s crap shoot. It was really a matter of having enough customers complain until Acura took notice and try to resolve the problem, first by sending out “fixit discs”, issuing a set of rebooting instructions and finally, as in my case, having Acura call my dealer to make an appointment to pull and send my unit to Alpine for a software reinstall. The clock inside the GPS units ran out of date syncing with the GPS satellite. It took a long time to get everyone fixed, and I’m sure thousands of people didn’t notice or sold their cars. Acura was as surprised by this problem as we were, but they never avoided responsibility. I’ve had Chevy and Chrysler cars with early under warranty problems that never got fixed after the warranty ran out...taking the odds that no one would have the time or money to sue.

The strangest thing happened about a week ago (today is Sunday, 25 Aug 2019). The clock on my 2003 TL just started working again. It went out like the rest of you in Aug two years ago. I didn’t call for a dvd fix, I just lived with it. Out of the blue, it works again!

That could be great news for everyone whose clock was still not working. I hope others will report the same. If so, the likely reason for the clocks all working again is that they sent up a software "patch" to the GPS satellites that corrected the problem caused by the software update 2 years ago. I hope others soon report the same good news.

Happy to report that the same thing happened to my 2003 TL Acura this weekend. I never tried to fix-it as it seemed the results were varied so I just let the clock read 00.00. It is really great to have the clock back!

I have a 2006 TL. The nav clock is 0:00 (the semi-colin is not blinkng. The clock on the upper dash is off by 2 hours exactly. Also my calendar defaults to Jan. 2002. I am sure this is related to the clock issue. Someone on here mentioned the GPS units ran out of date syncing with the GPS satellite. Has anyone sent their Nav, Unit to Alpine to see if this is the issue?
