I would say a fuel as acgood first choice, check the fuel pressure first but nake sure you change the filter first....good luck.

Checking the fuel pressure would be a good first step. You could squirt a small amount of starting fluid into the intake to see if it fires. If it does then the problem is somewhere with the fuel system.

Learned this the hard way - on a 2006 Montego there is a Fuel Pump intertia shut off switch underneath the drivers side dash board. It is suppose to be triggered in case of an accident. Sometimes they fail and then the engine does not get any fuel. Hence you troubleshooting, fuel filter, fuel pump etc unsuccessfully. Then you push the dang button and everything works again - just like magic I tell ya.

Mine driving me nuts. If it is above 50 degrees and you try to restart it 10 to 60 minutes after you have been driving it there is a problem. Either it will not start or it sputters. I have determined it vapor locks. A fan on the engine eliminates the problem. I have changed the pump and all of the senors including the inertia switch. I also replaced the alternator which helped a lot but did not totally eliminate the problem. Any suggestions?

I’m having a similar problem. The car sometimes will start right up and other times I have to keep cranking it.It will only sputter a bit/almost start when I hold the gas peddle down. Eventually it sill start and of course the smell of gas comes out the tail pipe. When it’s running there is no problems though. 2006 Mercury Montego
