Jumping my 02 BMW X5

Asked by Sep 15, 2016 at 08:19 PM about the 2002 BMW X5 4.4i

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Is it better to jump straight to the battery? Or the
terminal under the hood?
If under the hood, here in the world do I hook the
negative?

I would perform the jump from under the hood. Positive is under the cap and negative is nearby, same looking nut and exposed. Your owners manual will show you the location.

Thanks, I do not have the manual, or ever looked under the hood of a bmw. I can't even figure how to check the oil on this damn thing. The car just kinda fell in my lap and I'm deciding if I want to keep it or not.

V8 models have the junction terminal mounted to the driver side engine valve cover, toward the front of the cover. The terminal has a black plastic cap marked with “+”.
