If you ran it out of gas...this is bad.. The fuel keeps the pump cool and if you run it out the pump in the tank gets hot and can go break....Wait a while then try again...I have seen it go both ways...good luck, a new pump in the tank is a little high. You have to drop the tank to repair.

Fuel pumps tend to overheat and go bad after being run out of fuel. Check fuel rail for proper fuel pressure. Also advise to replace fuel filter due to trash from bottom of tank being picked up when ran out of fuel. If this is a vortec engine do not do the old school test of spraying any kind of starter fluid or gas into the intake. Cause if you do and it happens to back fire thru the intake you will be putting a new intake on. Blew mine all over my back yard. They are plastic and have spider injectors in them.
