I have '03 Tahoe it idles fine but shuts off in gear
Just changed alternator after car shut off on me
while driving and DIC said battery not charging.
After replacing alternator car will not load CD or
stay running after depressing brake pedal. I'm going
to change pcv valve but do you have any ideas?
Did you disconnect the battery when replacing the alternator? If so then you will have to take it to a dealer and have it reflashed due to loss of voltage. There is a little tool that is used when disconnecting the battery that maintains all of the vehicles factory presets and owners settings. I don't know if that information is in your owners manual, but I did find it in mine for a 05 Yukon. You can try starting it in neutral and see if it will drive to the dealer, if it does then the performance will be low.
I just changed mass air flow sensor. No help there either. I do have a manual, but I don't know where reset button is. I checked everywhere for vacuum leaks. Found 0. This truck only shuts off when warm and you apply the brake. Oh and while changing alternator the battery was disconnected. Please help. Don't want send to a garage and get charged a zillion dollars that I don't have. Truck was running fine , except recent antifreeze leak that's not present on the ground. New battery new alternator new mass air flow sensor new serpentine belt.
There is no reset button. Try pinching off the brake booster vacuum line and then try it, if it doesn't die then check the little check valve where the booster vacuum supply line is connected it could be flowing continuously. Do you hear any vacuum leaks inside the vehicle like down around where the steering shaft goes through the bulkhead?
@tennisshoes. Try that no good. However when stepping on pedal in park it paused and then sounded like a vacuum leak. Gonna try changing intake hose don't see any leaks but when I pressed gas pedal in park a buddy told me that where sound came from.
@tennisshoes. Do you think it could be the throttle body? I went through every gear w/o truck moving and it finally shut off. Before I would drive it and after warmed up it would shut off while pressing brake. Today I shifted into each gear with out moving a @ each shift idle went down until eventually shutting off. Actually question posed to anyone.
It is possible, have you cleaned it real good? Also check the connections at the TPS. If you have an ohm meter you may want to test the TPS and make sure there aren't any dead or static zones in the sweep. Just a thought.
