I have a 2005 chevy Tahoe 5.3 liter vortex motor. Difining the noise is difficult but when facing the truck head on its coming from top left side like a tapping sound. I have a video of it.
Can we hear the video? That would really help
Yes trying to figure how to post it
It won't allow me to post a video on here
Yeah, there is a way. Folks have done it. Problem is I don't know how either.. but will find out....
Ok thanks. I will keep trying
Check back here occasionally. Later today Even tomorrow..unless one of the guys/gals knows and comes through. But I couldn't find anything in the 'help' section here, but sent a question straight to the CarGurus Admin. This really is one of those that if we could actually see/hear it's (almost) like being at the car. But then ...it might be tappets... exhaust leak...so many things
It's not like you have to make a YouTube
Got a reply. No can do here, but "she can add a video in her garage. All she needs to do is post the car to her garage and click the "Add photos" link at the top of the Garage tab. The following page will give her another tab to post videos.
Now... look forward to hearing the sound. I almost said look forward to hearing your car trouble, but your trouble is not to be taken lightly and we want to help..... that answer came from the BIG guru. Hope to hear from you.... pun intended
Holy moley you beat all of us. I just started posting without paying attention to your answers. First it sounds just like an engine way low on oil, the lifters slapping. Going to listen again...several X
Ooooooh iiiieee... every time I listen it sounds more and more like a piston slap... A bad bearing on the crankshaft journal that allows the piston skirts to slap on the cylinder wall. Or very loud valve tappets. The 5.3L Vortec is a bullet-proof cast iron block 300 HP engine with aluminum heads. Kinda like the Ford Triton, but Ford messed up BIG-time and a bad design began to shoot spark plugs out like bullets... sometimes, if the angle was right, literally through the wheel-well and even hood. (Got off Topic) But the 5.3 Vortec is a push-rod engine. Cam in the center deep-down and has to use either hydraulic or solid lifters. But I still say piston-slap
Something on the side: How to get 1300HP from a 5.3. Well maybe.. But good for one run down the (now shortened 1000 yard drag strip.. no more ¼ mile) http://www.trucktrend.com/how-to/engine/1213tr-vortec-5-3l-big-bang/
Read that entire article and the engine was never installed in a vehicle. Don't know how true all the claims are... 25 psi positive pressure induction.. OK, if they say so. It's one of two things.... some guys with money to burn and this is how they spend their time (envy, green) or total bs and I for one am a bit cynical and don't know which it is
Well thank you very much for your time and I will have to keep you posted
Betting you A/C belt is chunked out and the idler is bouncing. (been there)
