i have a 2003 jetta gli, six speed. last week was on the way home and was not able to shift out of 2nd gear. the shifter would move but would not change gears. i have narrowed it down to the linkage attachment at the base of the shifter. my question is how the heck do i get to it?? i was able to use a pair of needle nose pliers and was able to reconnect and it shifts fine, however the little piece that kept the linkage attached is broken. How do i replace it? From the top, or from the bottom. help!?1
Any help out there? Still stuck. I have a parts diagram, the dealership informed me i would have better luck replacing the car straight out.... how is that? HELP!
They just want you to buy a new car so they can sell you one. Get yourself a repair manual (Haynes or Chilton) from the auto parts store. Should only be $20, it will tell and show you step by step.
