2003 dodge 1500 4wd front differential bolts

Asked by Jun 26, 2016 at 02:14 PM about the 2003 Dodge Durango SLT

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Basically i changed the fluid on my front
differential. There origianlly was not a gaskit
and i added one. When i put it back togather,
some of the bolts arent tightening up and its
leaking fluid. Should there not be a gaskit?
What can be causing this problem?

It should work with a gasket, did you notice any thread material stuck in the cover bolts when you removed them? it sounds like the threads have been stripped out in the differential housing, you may have to get a thread repair kit and install it in the ones that are missing the threads, remember when using a gasket just snug up the bolts but not too tight as you can also wreck the gasket, and the cover has to be flat across the sealing edge.
