my car shuts off when turning on my airconditioning??
When i turn my air conitioning on in my 2001 ford explorer it makes a squealing noise and shuts my engine off!!
The A/C pump may be seized up. Turning on the A/C will engage the clutch on the pulley and activate the pump. What you are probably hearing is the belt squealing over the pulley. The extra load on the crank pulley is stalling the engine. I would recommend bringing it to a mechanic to have it looked at.
Mark is probably correct. stand in front of the engine with hood up a/c off. Have someone turn on the ac and look at the pulley on the front of the a/c. It will either turn freely, not be turning, or be erratic in it's spinning. Change the belt when you change the offending part. It's probably burnt by now.
