i am looking to up grade my 2002 Sport Trac engine to a newer year engine. When i look on line at the engines available i notice that some have the power pack in the rear of the engine and some up front on the right will this make a difference in my choice of engines. I would love to put a 2004 or newer, Any comment or suggestions/
Could be engine modifications made by the manufacturer during mid model year, or inclusions of accessories from model to model requiring a re-positioning. First check your individual state regulations concerning EPA restrictions and see if there are any. Also, you may have to take along an entire host of additional sensors and EVAP components not included on the older engine. A PCM update will also be necessary. When repairs down the road are required by a professional, you'll have to inform him/her of the modifications made. Diagnostic electronic parameters could change.
