Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Ford Explorer Sport Trac, 2002: Brake lights are  not coming on the truck or the trailer in
tow. The top cab brake light comes on, the turn signals work on both the trailer and the
truck. Fuses appear to be ok. The brake switch was replaced a few years ago when brake
light would only come on in park, not when braking from driving.

Purchase a haynes manual. In the back are electrical schematics, lights are included.

The electric current eminating from the pedal only services one side of the tail lights. Current is jumped from one side to the other. Visually determine which side provides power to the other and begin there checking for voltage. Check the plug for the tail light, then then probe the wiring going into the plug for current. Then work backward. Since you have tail lights but not brake lights I suspect a problem with the plug, possibly the switch on the brake itself.
