I'm looking at a 2004 Explorer XLT with 130,000 miles, because it's in my price range. Haven't own a vehicle in a decay, and never owned a Ford. Are these vehicles dependable?

No a 2004 Explorer has too many issues, transmission is one of them. $$$$

Info on the 4.0. The SOHC engine has two drive chains. One side is on the front and the other is on the rear. Meaning the engine has to come out of the vehicle in order to service the rear chain, tensioner or guides.
